We are leaving at the end of the month for our first family trip to DL. So excited. I have been reading the threads and think I have a good plan for the week. Now let's just hope the kids cooperate. :rotfl:

I do have one hang up that I am hoping you all can help me with. We will be getting to DL right around 9 on Sunday morning, February 24. We are booked to stay at DLH, but our room will most likely not be ready for us early. We are getting a 2 bedroom suite because we have two little ones. Anyway, my littlest one, 19 months, will definitely need a nap. I have read that the baby care centers are a great place to nurse. Do you think they would mind if I nursed him there and then just stayed parked in the chair for oh about 2 hours while he napped. :) He is used to napping in a quiet place and has never napped on the go, so napping in a stroller won't work for him.
Let me know your thoughts, please.

Wow, I'm impressed your 9 month old hasn't napped on the go yet! We're out so often that DD takes a lot of her naps like that. Anyway, I wouldn't think they'd care how long it takes you to nurse... it's not really their business! I know when I was nursing DD as a newborn, it would take over an hour sometimes. :) If he happens to be sleeping, how are they going to know?

For me, though, I'd rather DD nap in a stroller so that DH and I could go do other rides or shop or something rather than holding her for that long, but that's just me. I bet you could also go to the hotel and even if it's not ready yet, the lobby would probably be pretty quiet if you wanted a more comfortable place.

Have a fun trip!

My DS is actually 19 months- 1.5years old. He is down to one nap a day. Both he and my DD, 3 years old, nap at the same time, so it makes it pretty convinient to use that as a time for everyone to relax. My DD is able to skip naps, so she and my DH will go explore and have fun while I stay with DS.

Using the hotel lobby is a good idea. That way I could check on our room and then just stay put if it is not ready. :thumbsup2

How busy are the baby care centers? Do a lot of people use them?

OH! Sorry, I read a 9 in your post and assumed it was a 9 month old you were talking about. Woops! I've never been in the baby care centers... we haven't travelled with DD before, and she'll be 14 months when we go so I don't really see us going in there.

I never had to wait for a seat to nurse at the baby care center, but maybe twice I had to wait a few minutes to change a diaper.

The CMs are really friendly and helpful there. The nursing chairs aren't the most comfortable, especially if you're short like me and your feet don't reach the floor, but they'll do. ;)

I would think they wouldn't notice or care. But I agree that the chairs aren't very comfortable, so if you're holding your little one for his nap, the hotel lobby sounds like a better bet to me. DS will be 18 months on our upcoming trip and I'm sure I'll stop in there occasionally, especially because DS is a distractable nurser now! But it's not like they check on you in the nursing area or anything, DS took a little nap last time we were there, but every time I was in there lots of women would come and go while I was nursing DS...he only nursed for like 15-20 minutes, but I guess some people have kids that are fast nursers!

No worries about the age mix up. I was just trying to explain why he doesn't nap on the go. With both kids taking a nap at the same time, it has just always been easier to schedule around their naps.

This will be our first time travelling with DS, too.

Bummer about the chairs not being comfy. I am on the shorter side- 5'4", so I use a foot stool when I nurse. Do they have some there?
I knew I was going to miss my Boppy, but I didn't think about not having a foot stool.

Good to know that there isn't much of a wait to nurse. DS isn't the most patient guy. I also don't want to take up a spot for so long if chairs are in high demand.

My daughter fell asleep there after nursing once. I was able to pass her off to DP, who sat in one of the chairs by the entrance holding her while she napped. The CMs were very nice about it but when DP started to nod off, they told her she needed to be awake, even if the baby wasn't.

The Baby Care Center at DCA is much less busy and might be even easier to nap your child in. I preferred nursing there but I know a lot of people like the one at DL.

Hope this helps!

I def. missed my Boppy! I'm only 5', and I don't recall seeing foot stools there.

I always get nostalgic when I go in the baby care center to change a diaper - I nursed DS until he was 22 months and kind of miss it! Congratulations for sticking with it!

ooh, that's great to know they have nursing spots. my third will be 9 months and while i don't mind nursing in public, DH isn't as comfortable with others glimpsing the girls!

my first two self-weaned and made it to 21 and 22 months. good for you for keeping up with it!

Perfect. My original plan was to stay at the DCA Baby Care Center since we are going to spend Sunday morning at DCA. I will bring a book, so that I don't fall asleep. Although I do love taking a good nap with DS. :)

Happykell, my husband is the same way about me nursing in public. Especially now that DS is older. He used to be content to stay under a blanket, but not anymore.

Happykell and Monkey Monkey, thanks for the nice words about choosing to nurse for longer than what some consider to be the norm. I nursed my DD until she was 18 months. DS only nurses before his nap, but I enjoy that time quiet time with just the two of us.

I wish I could have nursed my DD4 longer! We only made it to about 6 months, and 3 to 6 months also included bottle feeding... but I was back in school and working part time.

When we went in 06 DD was 2 and we were at the Minnie and Friends breakfast, I think, and she needed to use the potty so I asked a CM where the closest one was and he pointed to the Baby Center. DD LOVED the little potties! :rotfl: Only problem was she kept wanting to use the "little potties" no matter where we were in the park.

You have nice words from me, too. nice words nice words nice words. :upsidedow

Some might not want to know about my still-nursing 3.5 year old, or about me going until I was 4 (and my half-sis going beyond 4), for that matter! :)

But my guy has NEVER been cool nursing under a blanket (he would get quite dramatically angry at being covered, and would expose so much more of me if I covered him, LOL), so at Disneyland I just nursed him on POTC or Small World.

We used a nursing chair at DCA in December, but he was too distracted to actually nurse, and just used it for a few moments of quiet time.

I hadn't heard about little potties. My DD will love that. I knew they didn't flush on their own, but I didn't know they were kid sized. I am just glad we got through all the potty training business well before our trip.

Thank you Molly. Actually your trip report from December was what inspired my question because I saw the picture of your little one sleeping on your shoulder after riding on POTC. My DS will sleep in my arms, but will not fall asleep in a stroller. Therefore, I need to find a place where I can just sit for a while on the Sunday we arrive. I am hoping the Baby Care Center or DLH hotel lobby will provide a semi comfortable place. Every other day we will be going back to the room for a regular nap. He gets quite grumpy if he doesn't get his nap.

I haven't nursed DS in public in quite awhile, so we will see how distracted he gets.

I have one more question about the Baby Care Centers. :)
Does anyone know if they are brightly lit or are they a little darker?

Thanks for all the help ladies. :grouphug: I feel that I have a couple of options that will work for DS's nap that first day.

Also, thanks for sharing your stories on nursing. I think it is great that you all nursed your little ones as long as you did. I love nursing. I know I will miss it when my DS decides to stop.

Bumbershoot, I see no reason why people wouldn't want to know about your DS still being a happy nurser. I think it is terrific!! IMO, we should all do what works best for our families and try not to judge others who are doing the same.

Thanks!! Trudy
