Baby Booted from Burger King Over Bare Feet

Did I say I got offended?

Seriously people I said I PREFER that babies have shoes or socks on in public. I always did it with mine even in the summer.

I happen to think all feet are disgusting though.

I admit I don't like it when babies are out in public with bare feet. Socks or soft shoes for me please. I can't explain why but I really don't think it is right for anyone to be out in public without at least some kind of foot covering. I can't tell you how many people I see let their kids (walkers) run around without shoes on.

6months old dont' walk too often ;)

Most pediatricians will tell you that wearing shoes when babies are cruising will not allow the muscles in their feet to develop properly. My ped recommended not using shoes until they were walking, and then only when necessary to protect their feet.

Exactly..

aww...I love baby feet. The rest of adult feet I can do without....

But...as far as a baby getting thrown out for it.. .RIDICULOUS!!
Summer time and put socks (oh wait, the law says SHOES) on a baby because they are too young for flipflops? How fair is that??

RIDICULOUS! My babies would be kicked out of everywhere in the summer time.
If they are walking..yes...I'll put shoes on them because I dont want their feet on that nasty floor just as much as they dont want their feet on the floor!

Are you thinking that I agree they should be kicked out? Or just stating after? Just curious.

Twice now I forgot to say I don't think they should be kicked out. I should really be more careful about posting too quick.

It's a preference of mine. That is all and nothing to get worked up about here. Seriously.

ETA: For the record I know full well about shoes being bad for kids. Mine went barefoot in the house while walking and soft walkers in public. There are lots of cute soft soled shoes out there that are great for when kids are learning and need to have feet covered.

We moved from Phoenix to Wyoming when DD was 3 months old. I very clearly remember stopping at a fast food place (probably was BK) in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico and being told by the teen working the register that I had to take DD out because she was barefoot. I remember trying to nicely to explain to the poor kid (whom I knew was jsut trying to follow the rules and not get in trouble at work) that the rule isn't really meant for infants in their parent's arms when the manager came up and told him the same thing. Thank goodness as there was no where else to eat and I was thinking frantically trying to figure out where in the stuffed UHAUL there might be a pair of little socks. DD would scream and scream and scream if you put something over her feet as an infant (nurses at the hospital would put socks on her--she would scream bloody murder until she kicked them off and then quiet instantly). She never wore socks or shoes before she walked for this reason. She still prefers to go barefoot at 12:rolleyes:

It was probably just an excuse just to get a screaming, yelling little PIA out of the restaurant. :rotfl:

Seriously, the manager will probably be looking for a job really soon. I don't like his chances of finding one. If you fail at this, what's left?

MTE!! :lmao: Doesn't sound like he has any common sense.

We had a CM at (then) MGM tell us back in 2000 that then 8-month-old DS had to have shoes on in his stroller. Problem was, no way would that boy leave shoes or socks on. I can't tell you how many shoes and socks I lost because he would pull them off and drop them out of the stroller. We lost a brand new Reebok somewhere in Epcot.

I think baby feet are adorable. :lovestruc Adult feet, not so much.

We have run into the same thing. Our 14yo son walks pretty well for short distances and without crowds, but he is off-balance. He's also severely mentally handicapped; he cannot understand or be reasoned with. When we're at WDW we usually keep him in his w/c-stroller most of the time for his safety and the safety of others, so he won't lurch into somebody and throw them down. Christian's favorite game is "I take the shoes off, you guess where I left them." We have lost a lot of shoes. Now I keep his shoes in the backpack behind his wheelchair. For most of the rides the CMs are understanding--he's simply transferring from the w/c to the ride and off again. Every now and then I'll get a CM who makes a big commotion so we stop and put the shoes on, transfer to the ride, transfer off the ride, and take the shoes off for safe keeping. We're slow enough anyway; I'm sure people in line just loooove us.

Now, I can understand why someone wouldn't want to see my son's size 8s while they're trying to eat. We put shoes on in restaurants (even though he kicks them off--we have even duck-taped the shoes on!) But a 6 month old baby? That manager has a stick up his butt.

Your definition of "need" to have feet covered are not the same as others.. I dont think my son (10 months) NEEDS to wear shoes when his lil feet aren't going to hit the ground when we are out. :)

Going out on a limb--but I'm guessing the 6 month old was neither buying nor eating the food let alone walking in as a patron.

I would say the litmus for shoes would be walking.

You are right my definition of "need" is far more strict. I totally admit it. However that is my opinon on it and it is no less valid than anyone else. I don't get why people are trying to tell me I am wrong for my feelings. Feet should be covered in public. Period. I don't care the age. I realize kids take and throw shoes off but making zero attempt does bother me. I get particularly disgusted when people let their children walk around in public (excluding parks, pools, beaches etc) without shoes on.

It's not about being clean as much as it is about being "proper" to me. And since feet disgust me I think it is particularly proper to keep them covered somehow.

You are entitled to your opinion.

But shoes originated as a protective covering for the foot. Babies do not have a need for a protective covering of the foot.

Plus at 6 months, I would often wear my baby--and they don't need their feet covered if they are in a pouch.

Personally--I think it is silly when babies are dressed like they are full functioning "cool kids" with all the accessories and footwear. It seems to me a waste of money.

We don't even buy shoes until they are walking. And then they start off with the soft shoes and I do have them wear them or have them available just in case they decide they want to walk in public.

I just read an article online that quoted the baby's mother as saying she tried to put socks on her infant to placate the manager and he then threatened to call the police! If that's true then the manager was completely out of line! Serious power issues with that guy! By the time I had my second child I was not wasting money on shoes for a 6 month old!

I totally agree with every point you make. And I totally hear you on the whole "outfit" thing. It's weird to see babies dressed up like adults, unless it's for a special occasion or a costume or something.

OMG, how many times have I had to bite my lip when I see some poor little 11-12 month old baby tripping and falling all over a nasty floor, etc.. because they are trying to learn to walk, and clueless ridiculous 'but ohhh so proud' mama has these honkey 'adult' shoes or sandals (ohhh, they always the big 'name' brand).

It is absolutely mind boggling what our society thinks that little toddlers should walk around in. (even walking miles at the Parks)

This whole thread just shows how ridiculous people can be...

It doesn't matter if tiny babies have shoes on their feet at all. If anybody is offended, sorry, but that is their personal problem.
And, if you were to put them on the floor, like they wouldn't be touching everything with their hands....
Like that isn't a safety concern.... But, they gotta have the shoes on the feet, or the parents are criminals...

I would have told him to go ahead and call them. He probably would have gotten the same response from the police as the idiot who recently called them because McDonald's was out of Chicken McNuggets. I think she called multiple times; she was arrested for abusing 911.

I think its silly. But at what age should the cut off on bare feet be in the BK?

Anyone who can take steps on their own should be wearing foot covering for their own safety. A six month old baby? Rubbish! But then, so IS Burger King!

My son didn't wear shoes until he could walk....nor did I buy him any just for "looks". Shoes serve a purpose in my opinion...not just because they look cute.

If it was summer he was barefoot and in the winter he had on socks and no shoes.

I happen to think all feet are disgusting though.

I'm not a fan of feet either ;). I'm fine with a baby in a stroller or a carrier having barefeet, but anyone walking around a public area should have shoes on. We went to Outback last week. A party of 10 was seated near us. They were celebrating a birthday. A little girl about 3yo was complaining that her feet hurt her. Mom takes the shoes off and the girl went hopping around from person to person at their table. I have to admit that it bothered me. If her shoes HAD to be off, then she should stay in her seat. Nobody from Outback said a thing to the family about it.

You have a right to your feelings.

And I have a right to go barefoot. :goodvibes

Besides, Baby Feet are just the cutest things EVER!!! :lovestruc
