BA reducing economy baggage allowance

We usually travel light - this time we did 22 days including a 7 night cruise so we needed formal wear etc. We took 1 case each and one small holdall between us. At the time i thought that was not alot. Now that would be over the baggage allowance?!

On a standard 2 week holiday it will not be a problem, but when we go on a cruise this will be impossible.

I know it is the way of the world, but isn't it always a cut in benefits? I agree that the gap between the 'schedule-ds' and the budget carriers is becoming almost non-existent these days.

We manage ok as there are 4 of us, so 4 bags is more than we can manage anyway, but a couple or single traveller who eg take golf clubs are going to be struggling with the new allowance :sad2:

compared to charters you will have more
Charters 20kg verses 23kg on new BA allowance
Charters no carry on allowed new BA cary on any weight as long as you can lift above your head to place in overhead stow(start pumping those mussels)
Paulh

I thought it was 18kg hand luggage, as per e-mail I got from them, not that you would want to take more than that.

From October 11, passengers on domestic and European flights will be able to check in baggage weighing up to 23 kilograms for free – a reduction of nine kilograms. The number of bags that can be checked in will vary depending on the seat class and route.

Additionally, passengers will be able to check in one piece of sports equipment - such as golf clubs - for free, alongside their regular baggage allowance. Those travelling with infants will be able to take a collapsible buggy free of charge.

Meanwhile, changes to hand luggage restrictions will begin on July 5. Passengers will be able to take one bag, measuring 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, along with one briefcase, laptop bag, or equivalent. There will be no weight restriction for the bag, but the passenger must be able to lift it into the plane's overhead locker unaided.

Meanwhile, excess baggage charges are to be standardised and will depend on the length of the flight. Passengers will be able to pay these charges ahead of time online and those doing so will receive a 20 per cent discount.

British Airways says the new regulations will reduce queuing times and that the baggage allowances "remain comparable to or more generous than our current policies and our main competitors"

Now I am thinking although the e-mail came from ba it was really aa policies as ba lets you get the most generous allowance from whatever section of the flight.Ie, i flew with them to london then la with aa.
I am going to have to buy extra luggae allowance for our transatlatic cruise I think, also from here to barcalona, money, money, money, it is a hard life!
So many shoes, so little luggage allowance.:snooty:

Oh no, this sucks! :sad2:

It's bad enough that they reduced the size of the luggage allowed a couple of years ago, now they are reducing the weight limit and amount of cases we can bring each? :headache:

In 2006, BA badly damaged my large case during our connecting flight from our local airport to LGW. However, they replaced it there and then once we arrived in London so I could re-pack that night and be ready for our flight to Orlando the next morning. :hippie:

In 2007, the suitcase BA gave me was now over their size limit, so it sits empty in the attic.

In 2008, we were staying at WDW, then cruising, then staying at DL for a few nights before coming home. We needed 5 suitcases between the 3 of us, but we stayed within all the size/weight/amount limits. :goodvibes

This year, we travelled lighter as we'd have access to a washer/drier.

Next year, we'll be flying to Barcelona, probably needing 2 flights for that journey alone, cruising to the US, then flying back from Orlando - again needing 2 or 3 flights to make the journey home. Guess I better start saving now for the excess baggage/weight fees we're gonna have to pay. :sad2:
