B2B Question

you will have to definitely get off the ship and go through customs
I knew we got off the ship, but for some reason I thought we did not have to do the whole process over again. I thought we were held backstage or something. Okay, thanks for letting me know.

Do we go back through the port to check in for the second cruise? I'll move up in status and want to get the new lanyard but also want to board the ship early, so I don't want to go back through just for the lanyard if I don't have to.

Everyone must leave the ship so they can close out the first cruise. If you are in PC, you will clear customs and just take the escalator back up to the check-in hall. If in Miami, you will wait and be escorted as a group. Once you check in again, there will be a wait while they prepare for the next cruise, but you will board before any new cruisers, unless something really unusual happens.

Okay, At least I know I will get the new lanyard this way, so it's cool. I don't know why I thought they held you somewhere behind the port. No one told me that. I just assumed you would not need to clear customs again. My bad.

Depending on the port, there are different processes. When we did BTB in Miami, we were escorted the whole time through a restricted area. There was a DCL officer with us until we reached the check-in desks. I would guess this is because the terminal in Miami is shared by other cruise lines and the people working there are not DCL employees. In PC, you are in the DCL terminal, so there doesn't need to be an escort.

Our BTB in Miami was interesting. There were 12 people total including my DH and I. They had us wait in D Lounge until all of the other passengers were off, and then we were escorted off the ship. My DH was at the end of the line, so was the last guest off the ship. The security officer ran his KTTW card and then said into their radio, the ship is clear. I assume that was the signal they needed to close out the first cruise. It also meant they didn't have to look for stragglers!

I have done a B2B on the Dream with my son on a 3/4 night and am doing the same on the Wish next September. However, I am taking a different grown son for the first leg (3-night). My uncles are also sailing on the first leg so we will be linking up to share a dining table. For the second leg, the 4-night, I am staying on but doing it solo. I trust that DCL will match me up with other solos or people in my age group without kids. I am really easygoing but it will be interesting to see what happens.

Talk to your Head Server. Typically they'll come around the second night to ask if you would like to keep the same serving team. If they do not, then it really pays to let them know that second night. They spend the 3rd day putting together the final adjustments on the next cruises restaurant seating. Of course this all assumes that they will seat multiple parties at a table in a post COVID environment.
