So here's the story. We just learned that my 85 year old grandmother's boyfriend has about 3 months to live. :( They are local and are going to come visit us this weekend while we are in WDW. I just want to do something special for him and thought that the kitchen sink would be perfect. The man is all of 150 lbs wet and can eat a half gallon of ice cream without batting an eye. However, there are 8 of us and I can only find a reservation for 4 as of now. So I was looking at going to the Fountain instead because I see that they have a thing called The Funnel but I didn't know if it was as fun as the Kitchen Sink. Has anyone ever had this?

Oh the fountain has a wonderful dessert it's huge as well !! I'm sure it would be perfect if I'm right it has a fountain/sink that holds your delicious treat

Praying he has the most magical time yet, and they everything goes smoothly for him his family and yours.

Ghirardelli has superior ice cream and toppings, IMO, and they at least USED to offer a sundae for sharing called the Earthquake. We have ordered it and it was not sickening in the least. We did find the Kitchen Sink from B&C to be gross with all of it's cakes and jellied candies, etc...

Ghirardelli has superior ice cream....

FWIW Ghirardelli just uses Dryers/Edie's brand ice cream. I'll agree that toppings and sauce are upgraded, but not the ice cream.

If I wanted to give an ice cream lover some really proper ice cream I would at least go to Haagen Dazs at DTD. You won't get the big huge tubs of sundaes, but it'll be of a slightly higher quality than the other places in WDW.

Interesting about the Dreyer's! It always just tastes so amazing with the hot fudge...just seemed better!

Haagen Dazs is terrific! Where is that?

You might try calling Disney directly and see if they might be able to squeeze you in. They may not be able to help but, under your circumstances, I don't think it hurts to ask.

For an ice cream lover, I'd go with the Dolphin Fountain. Their ice cream is rich & creamy, and both the banana walnut & cheesecake flavors are outstanding (come to think of it, so is the peanut butter). My favorite sundae at the Fountain is cheesecake ice cream with strawberry topping (whipped cream & cherry, too, of course!). The atmosphere is a nice break from the hustle & bustle of the parks.

The last few times we went to Beaches & Cream, it just wasn't as good as it used to be, and the ice cream itself is just OK (but the No Way Jose is still yummy).

At Ghiardelli's, it always seems chaotic and I don't know if it would be too much of a zoo for two 85 year olds to really enjoy the experience.

Thank you! Yes I was thinking DTD would be way to much for them, although they are way more active then most 85 year olds. I should have added that we are staying at the YC so either B & C or the Fountain would be more doable. I will call DD, but I in no way want to throw others behind on their reservations because they squeezed us in.

My grandma and her BF do have a great story though... they were born on the same day about 15 miles apart. However, never met until they moved to florida about 60 years later and lived in the same neighborhood about a block away from one another. Once they both became widows they found love again!

Can you look for 2 seperate adrs for 4 each at beaches and cream close as possible in time? With the seating the way you would not all be able to sit together anyway, near each other maybe, but not together.

When you order the kitchen sink they make a big deal of it at b and c.

I had the ice cream at the fountain in sept, just the take out. we also did b and c the same trip to. We both didnt like the dolphin ice cream. I did have the banana walnut and I couldnt taste the flavor. My ds said his ice cream tasted like a huge sugar rush. He didnt enjoy it.

Hope you enjoy where ever you decide to go and have a great trip.

You probably can't find an ADR for 8 at B+C because they don't have a table big enough. Look for 2 4's.

I have been stalking the website for all sizes! Currently, I have the 4 ppl for 6:10pm on the 9th and the closest thing that I have seen besides that is for 8:50 pm. I know its free dining and this is last minute but really hoping for some pixie dust!!! Thanks for all of then encouragement. I guess our other option would be to do dinner at Captain's Grill and just get take out at B&C but I was really hoping for the Kitchen sink. I love how they do the sirens and make the big hoopla!

Love the fountain! Great ice cream, both hard and soft serve :thumbsup2

Their apple pie sundae has a slice if pie in it oh heaven:goodvibes
