I just wanted to thank you all again for your time, patience, kindness and generosity. I know it has been a big sacrifice for you the gifters to do this and I do deeply appreciate it. As I know the others who received those gifts do also.

I have closed the Space Suit thread to any new posters asking to be gifted.

I have also asked Jelly to lock the Dive Suit thread.


And I myself will not start another gift thread. I hope that anyone that is still on the list and has a space suit will please post so the thread can be updated because it has been said that some already have them.

I also hope that no one thinks I started that thread because I am lazy or want a free ride in VMK. I and most all of the DISers who posted truly did not have a chance at winning that suit by ourselves. I did try and when I finally get a high speed connection I will again.

Again thank you from the bottom of my heart all who have gifted not only suits in my threads but gifted to anyone in need that plays VMK.

Mal - I thought your gift thread was a great idea and anyone who would or tried to take advantage of it, well, shame on him/her.

I gifted a couple of suits to Dis'ers who I'd encountered at some point in the game and had a positive impression and I'd gladly do it again! Besides, at this point, space suits are so common that it's not difficult to trade for one.

Mal, I think you starting and keeping track of those lists were a very generous tthing to do--and also hard work to keep them updated, especially with people getting impatient and wanting it now rather than waiting there turn.

And thanks to those who did all that work to win them for others! I'm sure that everyone appreciates your time.

I think what you did was a great job!! The only bad part was that I felt that people may have been abusing the idea and I did notice hostility from some people when it was a gifting thread.

I greatly appreciate your efforts. My kids thank you for the thread. They did receive a space suit, while I am still fighting that Blaster game to get mine - gr.

Mal, I thought your idea was so kind and great. The intentions were honest and true. It saddens me to read that some abused the posts just to get free stuff.

If I had been a better player, I certainly would have been one of those giving out the space suits for those who could not play or could not win at the game. I was lucky that my kid was a good player and they did give out some suits to friends of ours who cannot play well. My kid is still working on a few suits for some of our Dis friends who are currently sharing a suit between them. We are trying to win some suits so they can each have their own.

I did give out many dive suits to those who could not play the game on their computer. I enjoyed being able to do this as I have been on the receiving end as well.

I think everybody is right, there has been a great influx of new people. A great many of them only ask for stuff I have noticed. There are some whom I believe to be true new members, seeking out other members,enjoying conversations, reading updates, etc. But they seem to be far and few between all of those who are constantly asking for inferno, green flips, etc. Oh well.

Mal, we all know you started the thread so that we could all help each other out. We know it is not out of laziness so please do not feel this way.

You are a great person and an awesome community leader.

To all those great people who were able to win the game and give to others, all I can say is that you guys are the BEST!

I just wanted to say thanks Mal for all the gift threads and thanks to AZCat for gifting me a space suit. I can not get the arcade games to load on my computer. and thanks to everyone on the dis board who has ever given a gift or helped me or anybody else in any way!
I surfed these boards for a while before I finally joined. I think it was during the maze event and wanted to voice my frustrations along with everyone else. Since I have joined the dis board VMK has become a whole new experience for me. ( I can not believe how much time and credit I wasted looking for Hidden Mickeys! lol ) I really enjoy going into a room and spotting dis members and always being made to feel welcome. I enjoy the spontaneous gifts and the pin donations. And I try to gift things when I can.
Please do not let the remarks of a few bad people ruin the experience for the rest of us! And I hope no one feels that I have taken advantage of them. I am going to break down and buy an annual pass and hope to make some "real" friends out of my "dis" friends and I hope no one is offended by that!

I juat wanted to add a plug for NiteBeforXmas for their generosity in helping my daugter obtain a suit and as soon as we can get together I can complete mine because of them. (I managed to trade for the hat and vest in the mean time)

Then there are all those who have not come forward for credit in their donations. To these people I want to say Thank You for your selfless acts and for making VMK and the DisBoards a more friendly and happy place to play.

Those of us who know you, know how actually generous your heart was to have made that thread.

I honestly did not put my 'request' on the list, until a long time after attempting that silly game. Even then, it was so I could share it with my DS, who also wanted the suit so badly, but was not able to win it, despite his own best efforts. (Thank you again, to SnowyW, who gifted one to me.) I was willing to accept, that being so long to make my request, that one might not come my way, and I would never post for two, despite my son's desire.

Yes there are those that have come looking for 'freebies' to the DIS. But I do know that many new members have come for the right reasons, and to that end, I will continue my own gifting.

Mal, don't stop being you, just because of a few 'bad apples' having joined the DIS. You are most definitely a 'leader' here on the VMK forum, and I am sure, that none of those posts were ever designed with you or the 'gifting' thread in mind.

Mal I want to thank you for the list too. I traded my husbands spacesuit when it first came out. With his permission of course not realizing they would not be up for sale again. So when this thread came up I was excited because I wanted my own one. I heart the pants and wear them everywhere. But I knew I could not win one even if my life depended on it. I even had my computer geek DS try. And he could not win one though he tried having some kid named gamebot winning one inspired his competitive nature. But at last it was not to be. Then one day I was gifted one so unexpectedly. I was so far down the list I really did not expect to get one. But it was worth a try. Being on the list does not mean you are entitled to one. It just gives the person gifting one a chance to know who would like one if possible. I felt so special when I was gifted a space suit. And though many have asked to trade I always say no it was a gift.

So I do not see a problem with a list only if the people who list do not expect to receive the item only a wish list.

Thanks again to all who spent their timing making many people very happy with the gifting of these special suits.

Mal, you started those threads with true intentions. To help those who couldn't get the games to load or the ones who couldn't win the suits on their own (like me who gets blown up within the first 5 minutes of the space blaster game). It was wonderful for you to do this. It makes me sad to see that some people took advantage of it.
To those who worked so hard winning suits, I want to give a big THANK YOU! You all showed what truly wonderful people you are (especially AZCat, who gifted me with a suit. I cannot thank you enough).

Oh, Mal, please don't feel bad in any way for starting the two threads. The threads are/were *wonderful*!!! I got to participate on both sides...on the gifting end of the diver suit thread and the receiving end of the space suit thread (still stuck at that infamous level 6, but still trying and will gift if I EVER win).

That was a true service to fellow disers to start and maintain those threads. It has only been recently that a few new people have joined on with free suits gleaming in their eyes. That doesn't make your intentions bad or reflect badly on you in any way, shape, or form. I thank you (for the thread), daisypaws (gift), dippydawg (gift), & McBain (trade), for the space suits for me and my kids...or those suits might have never have come our way.

Like the other poster said...don't stop being you just because of a few others who are taking advantage of the generosity of this board!

I think it would be sad to stop the gift boards...I think it is so sweet that other Disers who are good with the games would gift others...

My children were thrilled when they were gifted a Herbie suit from another thread...Sonya gifted them and their faces were surprised..I wish she could have seen it...

It is sad that people take advantage of these kinds of things...

I just want you to know that you seem very kind hearted..dont ever change that

Mal- I don't think anyone was thinking of you and those two threads when anyone complained of the gift threads... I think the gift threads are great when not abused but unfortunately there are some who do abuse it.

I was fortunate enough to receive from others- the Dive Suits I got from two different generous souls on this board (NiteBeforeXmas and an anonymous donor)- came at a time when we couldn't even get a connection to stay on long much less get through the game- I have since completed the games a few times and keep the codes for when I see someone has needed one and have been able to gift what I got there back and one or two more although when handing out each code I did also provide a link to the cheats so those could then get their own codes for friends/family

For space Suits- AZcat was gracious enough to take care of my request and then came back and asked if I had gotten one for dd and gave another- I won a third in the Halloween Mule Ball game from Canadian that took care of DH and because myself and dh are hopeless on the game- another friend of dh's is going to send a code for our ds (who has no idea he doesn't have space suit right now so never went on the list)

For Herbie- (I know you didn't do that one but felt it needed mention) I was most upset that I was unable to get the papers to gift to others the codes in the dvds (turns out our local blockbuster did get them but threw them all away because they didn't see the VMK thing just the advertisement for Sky High)- anyway- with those I was gifted by PinkGirlyGirl- who I think felt sorry for me trying to win one in DarthJordan's game- lol- that suit/chair/poster was given to dd whose character is still wearing it lol- and dh was able to trade for one (I don't have much that people wanted- he traded a retro Tomorrowland Pin for One) and now we will wait to buy DVD when available locally and get codes for me- and a grandparent or cousin may get dvd to get another code for ds-

I think for some of these lists are great- and Mal- you are greatly appreciated for keeping up with the beast of the lists they were too- it was not an easy task I am sure- please don't take things to heart- like I mentioned before I do not think it was your lists that anyone has commented about- and even if comments were made it was the people coming for freebies that haven't participated a little more. I know I hesitated at first to join in on a gift list when at the time of posting I had not been around DIS as more than a lurker and not even as that for very long. And really your list made my little girls day- she loved getting that stuff-

And I just want you to know that I (speaking for myself, of course), never felt taken advantage of. I think the threads were a great idea, and it's unfortunate that some people saw it as an easy way to try to get something for free.

But it is pretty easy to spot these people, so maybe they'll get a suit, maybe they won't.

You shouldn't feel bad at all, Mal. The threads made a LOT of people very happy, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I just want to add my sentiment of support to this as well! I keep on trying to win that game and I just can't!! (gr) I did get gifted a suit when it was my turn,(thank you AZcat!) but I'm hoping to win another so I can pass on the gift to someone else. I loved being able to give dive suits when we were still able to trade them too! Thank you so much Mal and to all the generous (and talented) gifters for your lovely spirit of generosity. I joined this board as a source of information and I have found much more than that. I've found fun and friendship in abundance with a wonderful group of people! If someone joined this board just for free virtual goodies then I feel sad that they will miss out on something much more valueable, a new friend to share the love of the mouse with!

Mal, I also think what you did was wonderful. It's a shame that some people take advantage of others.

The reason I did not particate in the gifting threads was that I was fortunate my DS was good at these games and he helped me win a diver suit and gifted me the space suit. As for the Herbie codes, we did buy the DVD but I let my DS have the code because it was more important to him. I really don't need the Herbie items.

Mal you seem to always be helping someone and I hope that you continue to do what you feel is right to help others.

I am glad you did the thread. I am still trying to win the space suit but can't get past level 10. I was gifted a space suit and if I ever do win, I will gift it out. I wanted the space suit so bad and if it weren't for the thread and the kindness of those who play the game so well, I probably would never have the space suit.

i really dont think it was a waste of time at all. if i had not fallen in the this game is to hard catagory i would have gotten the space suit for myself. and believe me even with a high speed connection it is still hard. any way in the future i hope that more threads are opened like that so ppl who are in need can have a place to go and get it. I think the gift threads are a great idea. I don't always know who wants what and it makes it far easier to try to connect item with guest. Will there be abuses? Yes, but keep in mind that the word gets out as to who does that and they will find fewer guests "gifting" them. Please, let's don't become stingy over here.
