:goodvibes Samuel, our nurse, said the sweetest thing to us. He comes every night to help with exercising Christian and getting him ready for bed. Christian looks forward to Samuel coming every night because he knows that Samuel will bundle him up and take him out for a 2 mile walk, something that DH & I can no longer do. He comes in with pink cheeks and a big smile. Then Samuel lovingly bathes Christian and dresses him for bed. Christian is very autistic, so he doesn't really interact with people too much. But Samuel always leaves him with a kiss and sometimes Christian will incline his head toward him.

I cannot tell you how grateful we are for this man in our lives. He has transformed our family, giving us a little time to ourselves to do things with our other kids, or just going grocery shopping without our little Buddy. And he's so so good with Christian, playing with him, rough-housing. He handles him gently and he is always engaged with Christian.

Well, tonight before he left, Samuel said "I love Christian so much. I pray for him every night. You know, there are still miracles!":goodvibes Awww, that's so sweet. We think Christian is a miracle already :lovestruc

You know, you can't pay someone to love your child. :worship:Samuel is such a blessing.

That is so awesome:hug:, he sounds like he is his guardian angel.:cloud9:

Wow, that brought tears to my eyes. Samuel sounds like an awesome nurse!:lovestruc

He really is. Samuel is a big strapping young man from Kenya. We often sit at the dinner table talking. He wants to know everything about America, from how to celebrate holidays to buying a car to making meat loaf. He is working just about night and day to earn enough money to bring his wife and 12yo DD over. And what work ethic he has! He comes to our house 7 days a week, unless we are out of town. I always ask him if he wants to just take a night off, but he says Oh no! i want to work! So I make him treats like vegetable soup and applesauce cake to take to his SECOND job at the nursing home that he goes to as soon as Christian goes to bed. I swear he has become like a son to us

Wow- this was very touching. This man sounds like such a blessing to your family. Hopefully he can be with you for a long time. Can you even imagine being without your wife and daughter for any length of time? Glad you are treating him well!

I agree, and Samuel is priceless. What a wonderful person to have in your lives. :grouphug:

What an amazing blessing he must be to your family, and I'm sure your son is to him.

what a blessing to have a caring person such as samuel to love and care for your darling boy :) i pray samuel gets to be christian's friend for a long, long time, and that his family can join him soon.

I've heard many stories about people who provide respite care and they are always good. It takes a very special person to do that kind of work so lovingly. It sounds like you found a gem in Samuel!

It sounds like Samuel needs your family almost as much as you need him. What a perfect match!:goodvibes

You've got an angel. Two of them actually. (:

I'm feeling sappy tonight (it's been a rough day) and I teared up at your story, especially when you mentioned his wife and daughter are still back in Kenya. He sounds like a blessing, and that he needs your family just as much as you need him.

I really feel that nurses are some of the greatest people on Earth. I recently had to write an essay on why nurses are heroes, and it really made me stop and think. (My own hero is a nurse) I have no idea where I would be if it weren't for my nurses, probably not alive. I want to be a nurse now, because of them, and I'm already working towards making that happen.

 to your whole family.

Thank you so much for posting this, I really needed to read something like this right now. People have such a great capacity to care and love and it's so great that you have found someone who takes that time with your son. I wonder if he even realizes what a blessing he is in your lives. I really think we are all here to bless each others lives in whatever way we can and share our individual talents with others. It sounds like Samuel really has a gift and talent when it comes to reaching out and caring for others. :grouphug:

I can't. He has been here over a year and cannot afford to go home. He puts every bit of his salary away in hope that they can rejoin him.

I think you are right. He told me once that Christian reminds him of his daughter.

Aww, that is so sweet. i don't know if you know that have been an RN for 32+ years. Good luck in nursing school. It is an exquisitely hard program, but the rewards are great.

I hope he knows. We tell him all the time how much we love him and how much it means to us that he cares so much for Christian. I tell his boss, too. Samuel is actualy our 4th nurse. The other three were okay, but they were not very enthusiastic about the job. I always felt they were just hitting their marks. One of them ditched us without calling and another one talked on her cell phone from the time she arrived (late) until she left. Samuel was actually a last minute replacement and he has stayed ever since.:goodvibes

I have tears in my eyes reading this. You were sent a special angel to help out. What a great guy!
I hope he stays with you for a long while!

What a wonderful thread. I am so glad I clicked on it.

It sounds like the perfect symbiotic relationship, and that is the best kind.:goodvibes

This is one the most beautiful things I have read in a long time.....Thank you so much for sharing, I really needed to hear something like this today!!

I'm sure you've thought of this already, but maybe you would like to buy something for his 12 year old for Christmas that could be a gift from Christian. :goodvibes

That's a great idea! Maybe I can find one of those Zhu-Zhus. I've already got some ideas about what to give him for Christmas--some homemade soup, cut-out cookies, cash, maybe a gas card. He doesn't know how to cook, so he just loves it when I fix him a "snack" for later.`:goodvibes
