Two (more) questions...

1. Since we are going in August, we figured the rain will be terrible at times. We are planning on not using the awning. Wondering what everyone thinks.

2. Since we most likely won't be using our awning, does anyone have a great idea for stringing rope lights?

Thanks!:)

I would highly suggest using your awning for shade. We live here and yes we have some good storms come through but we ALWAYS use our awning especially helps on keeping at least one side of our rv cooler. I can't imagine not using it.:thumbsup2

I really don't think it will be a problem-of course now that i say that :scared1: you never know.
Have a great time at the ft.
We'll be there 8/12 unless we have a hurricane.

I am staying there right now and have been leaving my awning out everyday except yesterday as it was windy.

I did see an RV 4 spots from me that had left his awning out and got the dreaded "crease" in the middle from a couple of days ago.

We use awnings tie down to secure our awning and make sure that it is slanted in order for the water to run off, and so far have not had a problem.

We had our awning collapse July 1st because we forgot to lower the rear arm when we left and it bent the extension portion to 90 degrees. I think if you lower one arm to its lowest position you should be OK, though. It is such a pain to remove all of the lights and re-install them every day so we normally just drop the rear arm but forgot to in the haste to leave that day...one torrential downpour later and now we have a new Zip-Dee awning arm!

Whenever we go back to the Ft we will put out our awning, but we will be debating about putting out lights etc, whenever we were there in April we set up the whole nine yards and never really sat out at all and always came back to late to cut our lights on so not to prevent people from being able to sleep, seems everyone in our loop was in the bed by 10:00 p.m. so we will put out our awning it does really help shade, but lights and stuff were debating alot of work to not get to enjoy, plus I decorated our site, felt it was kind of a waste, whos looking at my old crap whenever I'm set up beside a monster rig

We have an automatic awning so we don't dare leave it out in the rain or if we are not there. The automatic ones don't have the diagonal support of a manual awning. We have lights mounted under the coach so no need for setup but we also use the rope lights and just lay them out on the ground. These lights are hooked up to a photo cell timer so they come on at dark and go off after a preset number of hours or dawn. For our last trip to FW we bought the low voltage lights and use them to outline our sitting area. I even found 4 watt green bulbs for them. :thumbsup2

I'm new to camper owning so forgive my stupid question...what is "the dreaded crease" in an awning? :confused3
