Awkward Medical Situations

LOL! I would imagine it would be quite awkward having a such a conversation as the woman is manhandling your **** (btw I got my mammo today too).

The weirdest by far would be ob/gyn. I am good friends with a girl at church, and her husband, also a friend, is one. I would absolutely LOVE to go to him...he would have fantastic bedside manner and I feel so comfortable speaking with him about medications, treatments, etc. However, I would have to draw the line at the breast and pelvic exams. TOO WEIRD!!!

I did run into my ob/gyn at a restaurant one night. I could tell he recognized me but couldn't place me. I suppose to him I was just another vajayjay! :rotfl:

Oh yes!!! "So is your son going on the band trip, here.....tape these right here....now lift.......how does he like he school"

She really was great about the whole thing and very professional....still though.....I felt so embarrassed! :rotfl2:

Here's to good results for you also! :goodvibes

I also did fertility treatments and one time my RE told me he probably knew my "nether regions" better than my husband did! :rotfl2:

My DH was just complaining/teasing that I am now only shaving my legs on days I see my RE. DH is jealous. :rotfl2:

My mom used to work with my GYN back when he still delivered babies. I go to my first appt and he takes one look at me...I was already prepped for the whole exam...and he says "you must be so and so's daughter. You look alike."

I was there with my feet in the stirrups and thinking..."God I hope not...at least not from your view."

I had a planned c section for my twins. was laid out on the table, completely naked and the anaesthesiologist came in. He says to me you look familiar- did we go to pharmacy school together? yup. I avoided looking at him the rest of the time.

There's a joke in there somewhere about being recognized while naked on a table, but I'm too tired. :rotfl:

I live in a small town - dinners with the dr and his wife, church with the ob/gyn.... we're all very friendly - no other choice!

Speaking from the perspective of the medical professional (I am an RN in Labor and Delivery) I have these kinds of conversations with people all the time while they are in labor! I always figure that some casual chit chat helps to relax people and take their minds off whatever nerves they might have about what is going on.

This is our job and we really are professionals and are not thinking of anything else than just taking care of our patients.

There is one doc here that takes things a bit too far sometimes as far as casual chatter, when a patient recently was hysterically crying during her epidural placement he offered to show her pictures of his recent trip to France! She shut him down right away (he said, gee, I just thought it would take her mind off things!!!!)

I'd certainly rather have a friend than a stranger doing the poking and prodding:lmao:
I work in the health care field. Every doc or NP I go to is a "friend".

Well, being male I have a lot less opportunity for awkward medical situations but I did have one. I found a lump on a self examination of my credentials and wanted to make sure it wasn't anything to worry about. I saw a doctor and that exam wasn't bad. I was standing there with my pants down as a doctor did a not-so-self examination of me. He couldn't feel anything but wanted to be safe so he scheduled me for an ultrasound.

I have a cousin who does ultra sounds so I was talking to her and when I told her I was going to have an ultra sound she says "Hey, come to my hospital and maybe I'll do it". Of course I then told her what was going to be imaged and we agreed it would make for awkward family dinners.

I ended up having it done but this woman who was in her 20's and from Russia complete with the heavy accent. All I could think of was this bit that Opie and Anthony do about Russian strippers and Anthony saying "I dance for you the sexy if you show me the mon-yey" in a heavy Russian accent.

I'm not shy really so none of it was really that bad but it was a different experience and the closest I have. At least until the lovely "finger of truth" exam that awaits me in the future.

"credentials", "finger of truth" - there you go, making me giggle again.

After I had my first DD, I had significant pelvic floor damage, requiring months of pelvic floor physical therapy.......rendered by my co-worker, who sat at the desk next to mine!!! The second worst part was walking back to her treatment room with our other co-workers attempting to chat with me. The worst part? Co-treating patients knowing that she'd just had her hand in my hoo-ha.

Sorry if I'm traumatizing y'all but it's the truth.

ETA: Also, being treated, by my husband's boss, in the ER. Nothing like having someone ask "Did you enjoy the employee BBQ last weekend?" while my ****s are hanging out.

My friend had anal fissures after the birth of her baby. She went to the doctor and he was not only good looking, but he was also a frequent flier with the airline she worked at!:lmao:

We know my primary care doctor and his family personally, (not to mention that I was interested in his stepson for a while... ;) ) But knowing that he knows about my medical problems, plus him telling me that I need to lose a little weight... :headache: I have a hard time talking to him now, so I know the feeling.

He's also a Gynecologist, but if I ever let him handle that business, I know I could never look him in the face again. :rotfl:

As a nurse I see a LOT of people if you know what I mean!!!;)

Some people are embarassed, but I usually tell them, unless you have 2 of something in a place where there should be 1, I have seen EVERYTHING else!:rotfl:

My friend was just telling me about a situation she had. She was in the hospital for some procedure and a handsome crush friend from high school came to see her. The nurse walks in and asks her "Have you had a BM yet today?" She was mortified!

Let me assure all of you that as a nurse, if I have cared for you in the hospital and then see you at the local grocery store, I am not thinking about you private "business".

People never believe us when we say it, but the private business to a medical person is no different than an arm or a leg.

My gynecologist is on a national talk show that is on TV five days a week. I am always worried she will say something about me (never by name!) as a lesson or as a way to explain something on her show.

It just feels weird when I have an appointment with her, though. But, she's really great as a doctor so I deal try and deal with it knowing she is professional.
