Awful experience at The Sci-Fi Dinner

Im in the minority here...

We ADORE the Sci-Fi!!! We eat there twice every trip. But we are big sci-fi fans and love love love the theming!!!!!

I almost always get the same thing..... the BBQ chicken sandwhich and have always found it yummy.. the onion rings are great and so are the shakes. My daughters usually get a salad and then my hubby always get a burger. The little kids get burgers too or corn dogs.

Ive never eaten dinner there so maybe thats the problem....

All I can say if you like the B-movie flicks and love the idea of sitting in a drive in, in old cars, you'll LOVE the restaurant too.. just stick to the basic food.

I'm in the minority here too, because Sci Fi is one of our absolute favorite restaurants, and it's the one place we must eat on every WDW trip. But we're the kind of people Sci Fi was made for: we like basic food, a great meal isn't tops on our list of things to experience at WDW, and theming makes a world of difference to our dining experience. We're huge sci fi fans and we love watching the cheesy old movie clips in a fun drive-in setting.

We had dinner at Sci Fi on our first visit (back when we didn't know better) and that was our worst dining experience there, although the theming more than made up for the mediocre food. Since then, we've had lunch every time. We always order burgers, fries (we're not onion ring fans) and shakes and those are always really good. I guess we've been lucky, but we've never had to wait long for a table even though we visit at busy times of year. Or maybe it's because I make our PS for around 11 or 11:30. Some of our servers have been hilarious and very attentive, others have been average. But I can't say that we've ever had bad service here (or anywhere else at WDW for that matter).

Bottom line is....we love Sci Fi!::yes::

We've been to lunch at Sci Fi about 5 times and we've always managed quite well. Once DS had a pretty awful hot dog, but the other four times the meal has been fine - not amazing or incredible - but fine. The adults stick to burgers & shakes.

There's nothing nicer, IMHO, than leaving the hot, noisy atmosphere ouside and sitting in a cool, dark, QUIET restaurant. We've always had good service here and normally get out (without dessert) in under an hour.

This is DS's (now 11) favourite lunch spot, and we love the sci fi movie clips (they're supposed to be hokey).

We love the Sci-Fi diner too. We always eat here when at MGM.

WE only ever have lunch and it does seem as if dinner is a cop out. I do not like the look of anything on the dinner menu except the chicken sandwich which is what I have for lunch.

Other half is fussy and he loves it here. He has either the catfish or burger.

Try it for sure but for lunch.

We LOVE the Sci-Fi, and we eat there every time we go to wdw, which is once or twice a year (we live in Texas). We only eat lunch there, and miss the times when they use to serve popcorn before the meals:cheer2:

We also love the Sci-Fi. We make sure to eat there once on every trip! :D

I guess we are in the minority here too. We really like Sci-Fi. We are going to eat lunch again there this year.

We actually had an exceptional experience at the Sci-Fi. I am a vegetarian, and I wasn't sure about this place. I was with two teenagers. We didn't have PS, just stopped in around 1:30 or so to look at a menu. It seemed rather meat heavy, but the CM at the podium said she was sure Chef Ernie would fix me up. The girls ordered the Reuben sandwich and Chef Ernie came out to our car and talked to me at length about what I liked. He ended up going over to The Brown Derby and getting some tofu and making me a lovely coconut encrusted tofu cutlet on thai noodles with a bunch of mixed veggies. It was really delicious and he was kind of hot.

The girls liked their sandwich and we thought the theming was really cute. I will say, this was a do-over. We ate there a couple of years ago and it was kind of icky. It's still expensive, but aren't they all?:D

We're in the minority, too. We have never had a problem with food or service here. We have been going to the Sci-Fi every trip for years and years. It's a tradition for us. We love the campy movie clips, too. For us, it's a fun dining experience. I can remember when all the car hops were on skates and they used to give you popcorn to start your meal. It never failed, our server would always start a popcorn throwing war with the kids. They loved it! I'm sorry so many of you have had such terrible times there

Just a warning for Parents of little-little ones.
I called to make a PS and asked about booster seats and High-chairs - not available to those sitting in the cars.
I have eaten here on two separate trips and found the food okay (hot dog/salad at lunch) and insanely priced even for Disney! But mom loved the cheesy trailers and the atmosphere so it was worth it for her. My husband also likes cheesy B-movies (ala, Mystery Science Theatre style) but if can't sit in a car w/23m DS, we will wait for a later trip.
