my daughter has swimmers ear so I called the dr office to see if they would call in an RX. It was 5:45 and they close at 6, no way to get there in time plus, she gets swimmers ear all the time, no need to see the dr. They did without seeing her - but still wondering if they are going to charge for that service.

Anyway - I went to pick up the RX and the pharmacist said "I see you have a deductible plan, do you know this is $128, do you still want it?" I told her I had to have it, daughter in pain, etc. She said she would call the dr because there are other meds at there that will work but cost much less. Not sure how thrilled the dr was to get a call at 7 PM. Pharmacist called me at home about an hour later. She got the dr to give her an RX for a med that is only $26!!

Then, I mentioned another RX I just had to start taking. It's $130 every three months. She called me back at 9:30 last night (they close at 9!) and said she found one that is the same ingredients for $25 a month.

I enjoy my high deductible plan overall, just hate not being able to shop around for meds myself so was very pleased to have someone offer to do it for me.

WOW! sounds like great customer service and the pharmacist went above and beyond to save you some money. :goodvibes If is was me this would be my new pharmacist. Where I go walgreens they are nice but there is one guy that will speed up my rx wait time for me. Now when I go in I always make sure to say Hello even when he's not helping me. When RX is ready he call me and rings me up and its always before the time the other workers tells me. Great service and a smile always gets my business:cool1:

Okay, I'm not saying I'd follow my CVS pharmacist to the ends of the earth, but I'd go 20 - 25 miles out of my way. He's been extremely helpful, and he knows more about my drugs than the doctors who prescribe them.

I miss my CVS pharmacist! She moved back to England to be with aging parents and by the time she left she'd actually become one of my circle of friends! There were three couples that I'm friends with (including us) that all lived in the same neighborhood and she ended up being all our pharmacists, and she became a friend.

I always say that your pharmacist is a true friend because she knows all your secrets! *grin*

We haven't found that level of service again, which makes me sad, because she was awesome long before she was our friend.

My aunt is very happy with the pharmacist at Target. She was able to find a generic drug for my grandmother's seizure medication (all the other ones didn't work as well or had bad side effects). Usually by Sept/Oct my grandmother would use up all of her allowance for prescription medication, and have to pay out of pocket, some where around $400 for the end of the year supply. Now using the generic, she no longer reaches that cap, and no out of pocket expenses at the end of the year.

A hand-written note to the manager of the store would be a great Thank You.

what an excellent pharmacist. I have one pharmacist that I use for all my meds specifically because he knows what I will pay and what I won't and always calls and gets RX's changed if it's going to be too much.

I agree, a note written to her "higher ups" would be in order here.

Generally, a pharmicist has a different manager (usually at regional level) than just the store manager. I'd tell them you'd like to send a nice note to her manager and ask for the address of where to send it and to who it should be addressed. I'm sure they would be glad to offer that info to you.

Congrats finding someone you trust and who goes above & beyond.

Well that is great that your Pharmacist alerted you to a chepar medication, but you should really be talking to your MD as to why he/she is writing expensive scrips for rather basic things like swimmer's ear. :confused3

Most of us are not fighting cancer but yet we all go along like lemmings letting doctors write expensive scrips when there are perfectly fine and tested generic drugs on the market. Just because a new drug is on the market doesn't make it better. Drug companies only have an exclusive license for so long so they will make a new formula slap a new name on it and voila a new drug that commands $$$$.

Since I pay significantly more for brand name drugs I now ask my MD if there is a generic drug on the market that will satisfy my needs, especially when he is writing an RX for common ailment: allergies, colds, etc.
