I am getting ready to get myself registered to be part of the crew for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago in June and was just wondering if anyone else was either going to be walking or is going to be part of the crew!!! If you don't know anything about this you can find the information here:

http://avon.convio.net/site/PageServer?JServSessionIdr007=kv1qxztqyz.app1b&pagename=homepage

This originally was the 3-day walk and for the Chicago area it began in Kenosha, WI. This year they are changing it a bit and it's a 2 day, 26.2 mile walk. I am doing this in memory of mom who passed away this past August of breast cancer and for all the others who are survivors, who have lost their lives, for those currently going through treatment, and those families that are affected by this disease!!! If you have a chance and can do it in your area, please do!! I know Deb Wills has done the 3 day walk that past couple of years - she is the site owner of www.wdwig.com that many here tend to frequent.

It's a bit far for me, but I'm glad to give you a bump, 99. :)

I won't be a walker, Chris, but may get involved this year. Thanks for the reminder, it is a big one.

This is *not* the same walk as before. Pallotta Teamworks, the original producer of the 3 Day, closed their doors last year. I don't much care for Avon's underhanded co-opting of the event and locations. It stunk. And the new event pales in comparison to the 3 Days.

I was a proud participant of past 3 Days, but I'm not interested in this event at all. Avon bit the hand that fed them.

I did the 3 day in Atlanta. I am very glad I did it.
I am sure Avon will do a good job, but I was SO impressed with the logistical support for the 3 day that I will wait at least a year before doing the two day to make sure the logistics are worked out.

Sorry you feel that way zanesmom but my response to that is at least they are continuing with SOMETHING and not dropping the whole ball on it and not having anything! Anything that helps to raise money for this cause is good in my opinion and everyone has their opinion on this walk, which is fine. I feel it is good because it is an awareness walk just as is the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life that is held differently in each town that participates and the Susan B Komen Foundations Race for the Cure, again is held a bit differently in each town. I do not see any other companies that sponsor anything like this that are so dedicated to helping raising money for a cause that is extremely important.

I am not asking for people to participate but put the link up in case anyone was interested in it. I was asking if anyone was going to attend so that perhaps we could meet up during the weekend sometime.

Also, since I am probably going to contract this terrible disease sometime in my lifetime (my mother died of it, two grandmothers had it, an aunt has had it - I'm pretty high risk) I try to do all I can to help to find some sort of cure to kill this sucker before I get it! Or help to find ways to make it easier on people and help prolong their life!

And I just want to make sure you know that you will not be getting support from the same company that produced the 3 Days. That's all. Pallotta did an excellent job making sure the route was safe, and walkers and crew were cared for. I just don't want anyone thinking this is the *same* event.

Frankly, I think it's a crying shame that it went down the way it did. Pallotta helped raise HUGE amounts of money for breast cancer, which is a great thing. And I agree that anything done to help save even one life is well worth it. I truly hope you never have to face breast cancer. I wish we could eradicate ALL cancer from the planet.

I will try to figure a way to reword my statement then because I am trying to find the site that that was quoted - that it was originally the 3 day event and it was an avon site, I just am not at my computer where I think I had it bookmarked.

I have not been able to financially participate in the past so I do not have anything to compare it to. I will report when it is finished and after I attend the meeting I am attending next week.

I do also hope that I will not have to face this horrible disease but it looks very unlikely that that will be the case. I see my doctor at the end of March to see if there is anything we can do, as far as some research that has been done, to see if I will have a higher likelihood of contracting it. We'll see.

I did the 3-day a few years ago. Does the new format require you to raise $1800.00? A pm is on it's way, I would be happy to send you a donation toward your goal.
