Avoiding Scrappers in Parks

I want to do some pin trading during my next trip, but I want to make sure I don't trade for a scraper. How do you guys avoid this?

Well......if I ask a CM for a pin and it is a scrapper I give it back. I just say I changed my mind, they have never questioned me for doing so.
Also, I just accept the fact that I'm likely to get scrappers when trading, I try not to stress over it and I try to repurpose the pins into a different use. IE breaking off the post and making them into magnets, using them as push pins, using them as bathroom decor. There really is no way to make sure you don't get scrappers, unless you just buy pins and never trade.

Yes it's true, CM's are very unfortunatly covered in scrappers. Like pixie said, to know your not going to get a scrapper would be just to buy them. There are a couple links in this section to 'help' identify them:

On our last trip, I asked the CM to see the pin first. I always used the line, "Wow that is a great pin, can I see it?"

I always would look for the stamps on the back, the edging, general weight of the pin, and discoloration of typical characters.

Who cares if you get a scrapper? IF YOU TRADE FOR FUN and not profit. My philosophy - if I like it, I trade for it. What is the difference in displaying a scrapper pin as a pin or displaying it as a magnet?

trading is always done for fun, at least for us it is. BUT I do NOT appreciate spending more money on good pins only to trade them for scrappers, I prefer pins that are legit. Of course there are plenty of pins in my collection that are scrappers but I do prefer them to be real.

Yes. Of course I prefer real pins. What I am saying is that I do not worry or stress about getting scrappers. Some of my favorite pins in my collection are not real.
