Avoiding MK Closing Crowd

I read somewhere that when leaving the MK at closing, it's faster and avoids the masses by boarding the monorail that goes to the Contemporary and then getting off at the Contemporary and boarding another monorail. The point was to avoid the crowds and get to the MK parking lot. Does anyone know how to do this?

It's only a problem at closing if there are fireworks or Spectromagic at closing, otherwise people leave a scattered times. Regarding the Contemporary, you could walk to the Contemporary and catch the monorail there, but I don't think it would be worth the trouble unless crowds are huge. There's only 1 monorail route that goes there, so you wouldn't take a monorail there and get off there when you want to go to the MK parking lot.

I've found that if it's a night with Spectro running, it's actually better to let the masses go ahead of us. We kind of hang back until the bulk of the people are gone. Not only are you out of the stampede, but there's something especially magical about the MK at night without all the people. :D

The resort monorail does stop at the TTC. Just get off there and walk to your car.

Once the fireworks are done I always hang around and let everyone go ahead of us, so we won't face those huge monorail and boat lines, and we are in no particular hurry to get to our resort.

One of my kids' favorite times of day in WDW is the moment they realize I won't be rushing them out of the park. They take a half hour to browse the shops, have an ice cream, and stare at the castle. I try to bring a few glow-sticks or light-up toys to make it even more thrilling for them that they are out in the dark. Even though they are older now, 10 and 12, they still feel like special citizens of WDW that they get to stay later than the crowd that shuffles out the exits en masse and waits interminably for overfilled monorails.

We've learned to hang out afterwards too, a much more pleasant way to end the day. If you must leave earlier, I'd go before the parade & fireworks start.
