Avoiding Mears

Mears drivers doing things the way the WDW has told them. Following WDW rules not Mears rules.

Just pointing out to OP that it is difficult to avoid Mears.

Looks like they own the territory.

Wow, I'm so glad I found this thread. I've always used Florida Tours, both for family trips and my solo trips, but I was feeling guilty spending that much money for just me, so I was considering using Mears for my December solo trip. After reading this thread, I'm going to stick with the friendly, reliable service that Florida Tours offers. Looks like it is money well spent, even for my solo trips. :thumbsup2

I've decided to use Sunray. It's going to be about $20 more for the trip, but it means we get a towncar instead of a shuttle bus.

It's more then that since DME is FREE.

But since I'm using Sunray to take me from the hotel to ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE, I can't use DME. I said that in my original post.

We recently used Mears from MCO to Hard Rock Hotel. They routed the driver to a hotel near Disney first. We passed HRH within the first 15 minutes and mentioned to the driver it was our hotel. He said he had to drop off others first. To make a long story short....we had a 50 minute ride from MCO to HRH. Never again!

I've used Sunray for my past 4 trips with excellent service each time. Will be booking with them 5 more times this year even though I could use ME. Last January, after they brought us from Port Canaveral to HRH to the airport, we ended up being stuck in Orlando for an extra 36 hours due to snow back home. They were right there once we found out our flights were delayed and brought us back to WDW until our flight out the next evening. They made what could be a stressful situation go much more smoothly.

I've also been curious about how Mears is from a Disney resort to Universal Orlando. With our trip, we are planning on going to Universal two days, and Mears is really our only option unless we fork out money for a taxi. One day of this is for Halloween Horror Nights, and from my understanding, some towncars don't travel that late.
I think what we'll do is try Mears for our first trip to Universal, and if we don't like it, we'll just spend the money on a taxi for our second trip.

In 2000, we used Mears to and from MCO to the Contemporary Resort. There were 5 of us. Getting from MCO to CR was no problem, leaving was though. I called the day before like I was instructed, and confirmed our reservation for the following day's afternoon. That next day afternoon, we waited, waited, and waited more. I called and CM called Mears several times and was promised that "they" were on the way. Well I was just about to take a cab when a Mears van rolls up. It was already full with passenagers and their luggage. The driver wasn't sure what to do and I said that you are taking us! He cramed what luggage he could in and we ended up holding the rest in our laps. With all the missed time at CR, we barely made our flight. From that point on, we've always used Tiffany Towncar and NEVER had a moments problem. Mears is history with us!

If you go to page 1 of this thread and read the third post (I can't post URLs yet), that's what my dad and I experienced when we used Mears last time. That's why I started this thread to try and find an alternative. :-)

Why are so many people trying to compare Mears before DME to mears after DME? No question Mears before DME really did suck at times. But They are now doing what WDW wants them to do. Search the boards and you'll see very few complants for the millions of rides that DME has provided. Can they still mess up? sure they can. Is it for everyone? Not at all.
But trying to say Mears sucks because of your 2000 trip to today is like comparing the price of gas when you were a kid to todays prices, there is no comparing to be made.

If you read my original post, you'd see that I'm trying to go to ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE from my Disney hotel. This is not a service provided by DME, which is the only part of the Mears service run by Disney. There have been many complaints about the MEARS serivice that is not run by Disney. I really wish people would actually read the original post before posting about DME, because then they might see that I'm NOT asking about DME. *sigh*

My post was not aimed at you. It was just a comment about some of the other posters who did comment about Mears taking them to WDW.

My appologies. I've been a bit frustrated with all the responses I've been getting about taking DME from the airport, like they didn't really read my post.

No need to be nasty. We were asked our opinion of Mears and gave it. I haven't tried DME and maybe they are better. I don't know. The OP wasn't going to use DME but Mears and I posted my opinion based on a previous trip. I don't think there's any harm in that and no need to attack those who gave their opinions in good faith.
