Avoiding germs?

The best way to keep from getting sick is to keep your hands away from your face and wash your hands often.

Forget the wipes!, they are likely to do more harm then good!

Never thought of the swimming pool in that much detail... Gotta say kinda grossed out. DS loves loves loves to swim though so no getting outta that.

Wringing out swim diapers... That's just... I can't even.

We never get sick on or after the vacation, but I seem to have gone into many trips already sick, due to my stressing out and not sleeping enough before the trip! For our trip this year, I am planning way ahead of time to keep my schedule light that week, and get plenty of sleep.

While it would never occur to me to wring out a swim diaper, I find this no more disgusting that just being in the pool itself. Most of the liquid held by the diaper is pool water, not urine - that has already made its way into the pool. For people that understand how swim diapers function (to contain solids only), I guess I can see how some might think that's totally fine. Looks gross at first glance, but logically is no big thing. Although, again, I wouldn't do it. I just assume all pool water is about as clean as a toilet anyway.

Honestly the best approach right here. I've gotten sick on vacations, but it's when I go into them already worn out and then demand more and more of my body while we're out having fun. I just got sick this week for the first time in months, and you know why? Because I got tiny amounts of sleep this weekend while being unusually physically active and drinking more than usual. Take care of your body and it'll be better able to fend off the germs naturally.

Wash your hands with soap (but not antibacterial soap) before every meal, keep them away from your face, and get enough sleep.

Those are the most important three things to do to keep from getting sick but you are in close proximity to thousands of people who could all be carrying a bug so there are no guarantees.

We had a bad experience in January of 2013, where 7 members of my family got sick at WDW. Sick, like we had to miss park days on a short 5 day vacation. Sick, like we had to leave 12 hours early and drive home during the middle of the night so the kids could hopefully rest easier. It was no fun. I had never been a parent who carried anti-bacterial gel, airbourne and vitamin C and all those other things. My husband was. After our bad experience, we did things "his way." I can tell you for a fact, we have been sick much less. We've been to WDW twice since then, and his routine is anti-bac gel after ALL rides. The kids generally take vitamin C during the trip. We make sure they wash their hands before eating. If we see them putting their hands near their mouths, we remind them not to. More anti- bac.
