Has anyone used Avis recently? Could you share your experiences with me; did you go over to the port on the shuttle as a family with luggage or did you drop off family members/luggage at the port and then one person take back the car, how early did you get dropped off, did you have to wait long for the shuttle to take you over, do they drop you off at the tented area/parking lot or in front of the terminal, how was Avis' service, etc., etc.

Thanks in advance.

We rented a car with Avis both before and after our Dec cruise. On embarkation day, I dropped DH and the kids at the port at around 11:30. I stopped to fill the tank with gas and was at the Avis location very quickly. When I pulled in two vans (full) were pulling out. But by the time I had turned in the keys and signed the paperwork another van was waiting to take customers to the port. We waited about 10 minutes, mainly waiting for people to load all their luggage, before leaving. At the terminal, everyone in the van had to show a picture ID to the DCL rep to allow the van into the terminal area. The van then dropped us off right in front where they were taking luggage.

When I got in the terminal DH had checked us all in and was in the big line waiting to board the ship. All I had to do was show my picture ID at the counter (didn't have to wait in line) to pick up my KTTW card.

The process upon return worked equally as smoothly. However, since there weren't many people in the Avis line, the whole family took the van to the Avis location to pick up the car. We had already checked our luggage with the Delta reps at the terminal.

Hope this helps.

Just used Avis on 3-20-04 Eastern Cruise. We all went to Avis to drop off the car (5 of us - sister, 3 kids, and me) including all our luggage.

Avis building and lot were quite small but process was painless and quick. The shuttle came within minutes and took us to the cruise parking lot where we dropped off our luggage and walked across the street into the terminal.

We used DCL back to airport.

We just returned from our 3/13 western cruise and used Avis.
It was really pretty smooth...and went quite well.
My only complaint is I had to wait a little while for the shuttle to bring me back on embarkation day. But it wasn't really a long time, I'm thinking I was just excited. My wife had me already checked in and all I had to do was go show my ID to the CM that had helped her and I had my KTTWC and was ready to board.
