AVIS Direct to Car?

I just rented my first car through AVIS. I signed up for AVIS Preferred just prior to renting.

Will this allow me to bypass the counter and let me go straight to the car? Is it a simple process or any hidden gotchas.

I have used Alamo before and that is real easy.
