Avis accepted my Priceline bid for a Full-size car. Do we pick our car or does Avis assign us a car?

We usually rent from Dollar so I'm unfamiliar with Avis.

Thanks!

You will have to go to the counter in the terminal but you can ask what is available. When you go to the car in the garage and you don't fancy it, you can ask the folks in the booth if you can swap it for another car the same class.

HTH, Steve. :cool1:

I've used Avis in the past, they assign cars. If you don't like what you are assigned, you can ask what else is available. I was so glad when my company switched from Avis to National for business rentals.

Not entirely true. If you are an Avis preferred member, membership is free, Avis now has an exchange and/or upgrade aisle. Don't like the assigned car, just go to the exchange lane and get another. MCO is one of the participating airports.

It's been awhile since I've used Avis. How does the exchange lane work as far as category you booked? I always booked intermediate.

Also not entirely true. OP has prepaid the rental through a Priceline bid, which typically does not continue benefits of their loyalty program.

Just returned our Avis Preferred rental at MCO last pm. It was adequate, but noting special. We rented a full size. When we arrived at the garage, our rental was not listed on the board. We had to ask an agent in the garage, who found our reservation, but was not thrilled to have to look it up. We were directed to our car, which was a Nissan Altima S with 18,000 miles on it. Nothing special and certainly not an upgrade. Car could have been cleaner. There was an empty cigarette box left in the car and the front of the car was PLASTERED with many, many dead bugs. I asked about the aisle to choose another car and the agent had no clue what I was talking about and couldn't be bothered to help us. I mentioned the car was really dirty with gross dead bugs and the agent replied "it is love bug season, what do you want?" We just took the Altima and went on our way. :crazy2:

We paid a few dollars more because we had hopes that Avis would have better service, being a business brand.

The cars on the exchange lane are available to anybody. Depending on when we've been there, I've seen everything from a mini-van to a fairly standard mid-size vehicle.

It is for preferred members only. The exchange is checked at the exit gate. You are supposed to exchange for the same category without having to pay the rate difference, but in practice I've found that unless you jump multiple categories they won't up charge you. That means don't try to go from a compact category car to a minivan. You can still do the exchange but they will charge you the difference.
