Average Cost/Person for Wedding Reception?

Why on earth would someone ever post this? She picked her time, it is set, why tell her any wives tales?

Well let's see, it's ONLY an old wives tale, but some people like them and others don't give them a passing thought. Perhaps she'd not printed our her invitations yet and could switch it to the half hour IF it meant anything to her.

Why bother to ask any questions on a message board if you don't want to hear replies? I certainly didn't attack her in the least.

.

I have never, ever, ever seen an invitation for the half hour....but then I don't live in Hicksville. :rotfl2:

We my wife and I got married this past June, we paid $28 a person...and that was the low side. The most expensive was $55 a person, but that included the cake.

I didn't get married on the half hour either. I never heard of the superstition until after I got married though either.

I've been to several that have been on the half hour though. Both in and out of Hicksville. My one girlfriend (got married in Indiana) was a stickler about not marrying on the hour. LOL She's not normally a superstitious person, but boy was she for this. As for the others I've been to on the half hour, I have no idea why they chose that time. It very well could have been for other reasons.

Personally, I don't care when anyone chooses to marry. It's their business and their special day, so whatever they want is what they should have! I hope the OP didn't take offense to my mentioning it here. I certainly didn't mean to cause a debate by doing so. If she is offended however, I certainly am sorry. I don't want to upset her.

Who said they didn't want to hear any replies? I didn't say you attacked her either. I only asked because what would be the point to imply anything negative about a time that she picked. :confused3

Edited to note: Nance you and I were replying at the same time. It was just a question, not an attack. :)

That sounds about right. For our evening wedding (in Louisville, Kentucky) the price was $13.95 per person. That didn't include cake, soft drinks, or alcohol. It did include labor, linens, food, waitstaff, and bartenders.

We had passed appetizers and a buffet with 2 kinds of pasta, veggies, sandwiches, chicken fingers, and various appetizers.

Good luck! Enjoy this wonderful time - it's so exciting and goes by so quickly!

Ok, I will chime in on the old wives tale. I was married at 2PM and have been happily married for 35 years. Old wives tale and nothing more to it than that.

Just got back to this thread and just wanted to say that I am not offended by the posting of the old wives tale. I got married at 4 o'clock in the afternoon 23 happy years ago and it is perfectly okay with me if DS and his fiancee marry at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. This is the first time I have ever heard of this superstition however.
And someone asked why family of groom is paying for the reception - because DS's fiancee's father died when she was seven and her mother is unemployed and is shall we say "unusual" just to be polite. Somehow, despite her mother, the girl turned out to be a lovely person and we want their day to be special even if we are not following protocol.
Thanks for all your replies. I am really not a wedding planner. I am still planning to check with several others who do wedding food so we get a nice spread for a decent price. It is amazing how the price differs from one region of the country to another.
