Avengers Campus Superthread – Opening June 4, 2021!

Somebody should make a practice widget! 😂 so you could realistically practice the whole clicking over thing repeatedly instead of just hope for the best on twice-a-day practice- and maybe try how fast your phone responds to both the “click over” method and the “pull-down- to- refresh” method. These middle aged fingers just can’t compete with those Millenial and Gen Z gamers!

Successful practice clicking over from the DL tab
Yes!! This is what I did at noon today (I was helping a friend from home). Clicked over from DL tab to DCA tab at 11:59:58, one pull down refresh and the join button appeared. I couldn’t even get the join button when I tried refreshing from the DCA tab at noon on Tuesday!

Unsuccessful practice clicking over from DL tab for both times today. First time, clicked over at 06:59:58, and there was no "join" button. Same thing happened at 11:59:59. Each time I had to do then pull down after clicking over, and by that time, they were gone. Have successfully tried pull-down method while already on DCA tab at 12:00:00 previously.

I forgot to turn off WiFi, which at our hotel is slower than my TMobile, watched the time.gov countdown, had the virtual queue page open to DL, clicked to DCA, nothing, pull down refreshed, got boarding group one!!!!! What the heck?!

Here is my theory on WiFi vs cellular: most measurements of “speed” are measuring throughput which is how much data per second you can transfer. For the sort of data used by the app with the BG process, the throughput is literally tens or hundreds of times more than what is necessary for both WiFi and cellular.

So which is better? I think if you aren’t competing with other folks for WiFi, it is probably the better choice and here is why: smartphone power management. Cellular networking uses a lot more power than Wifi and because of that, the two smartphone OS’s will more aggressively shut that radio down and the networking stack in general will prefer WiFi to cell. So, if you don’t have folks saturating your WiFi network (like used to happen inside the parks when you had to enter before trying for a BG), you are probably going to be better off using Wifi.

If you do have to use cellular, your best bet might be to do something that requires network access in the moments before you try for the BG, like accessing a webpage, to keep your network connection active and therefore, your radios on.

Anyone else starting to get overwhelmed with all the planning? I’m very much a planner, but all these virtual queues etc are starting to overwhelm me. I tried a practice run this morning and wasn’t successful. I’m worried that when my family visits in October, that I won’t be able to snag boarding passes for my family for WS or ROTR. I’m a huge Marvel and Star Wars fan and so I know I will be disappointed if me and my family aren’t able to go on the rides. I’m a huge Disney fan, my family are DVC members, but when does it just become too much? It’s honestly starting to take the fun out of it for me. Anyone else feeling this way?

I was. But I took a deep breath and remembered we’re just happy to be back. We want boarding passes, but if we don’t get them there is still a lot of park to enjoy. And I do think our chances are good to get them at least once over the course of our trip.

It’s hard to not get wrapped up in it. I feel it every time a test try isn’t successful. But our first park day is Sat, so it is what it is at this point.

I need to keep reminding myself of that. Good luck this weekend and keep us updated how it goes! I appreciate everyone’s tips and recommendations.

I actually really like planning, and it’s really exciting. But it won’t be so fun if anything goes wrong lol

I love planning, too - but usually I’m able to reap the benefits of planning, lol. Here, I feel like I could do all the planning in the world, and there’s still a strong likelihood that I won’t get the boarding passes. I’m also decent with technology and if I feel overwhelmed, what about those who aren’t really good with technology, like my parents. There’s no way they’d be able to figure this all out, and they are the reasons I love Disney so much (because my mom especially took me regularly to Disneyland).

Other than the boarding groups, DLR is best experienced with minimal planning. Have some ideas, a few priorities, but by all means, go with the flow and don't overthink it!

It’s a bit stressful for sure, especially if you really have your heart set on riding but honestly, this new way is SO MUCH BETTER than the old process that required you to be scanned into the parks before attempting for a boarding group in the morning. Omg was that ever stressful watching the clock while trying to park and get through security and wait in line to go through the turnstiles. Eeeeekkkkk! One morning I only had five minutes to spare and I was sweating it big time!

I’ll get to that mindset.....eventually 😂. In all seriousness, that’s one of the reasons I prefer DL over WDW. I didn’t have to reserve fast passes months in advance, I just needed to make dining/character breakfast reservations and that was basically it. With the exception of last year, my family and I go go to DL every year and we have our routine. I guess what will be, will be. I was just feeling a bit mopey, I guess.

You are right - I was lucky enough to ride ROTR right before Disneyland closed last year. It was crazy trying to get a boarding pass. The park was completely silent as people tried for boarding passes. I was there as part of a conference so my husband and our son haven’t ridden it yet. I’m hoping it works out when we’re there in October.

Every trip to DLR, I (an obsessive planner) hit a wall at some point. Sometimes more than once. I get overwhelmed with info, worries, conflicting information, and second guessing my choices. And on top of that, I’m generally trying to hide all my planning from my spouse and kids, in case they think I’m an obsessed nutjob (I am, but I mostly enjoy it, and anyway I comfort myself that I’m not as obsessed as lots of other people 🤣) I have learned to put the plans aside for a few days or a week, hard as that can be, and focus on other things, especially exercise, eating right, getting enough sleep, and most importantly connecting with my family and enjoying the present with them. Then when I come back to my planning, I’m more clearheaded and refreshed, and able to look at plans with a fresh perspective.

I know this sounds cheesy, but it really works for me. Just walk away for a few days, then come back. 💕

This is great advice....I’m the one who does all the planning for my family, too.

Trying to get WS today at 7am! Wish me luck. Also any updates on when the Pym’s reservations pop up in the app? I’m going to starting checking periodically around 10:30am. Thanks!

Practiced for Web Slingers by clicking over from the DL queue page rather than refresh and my phone did not agree with that at all. The join button didn't show up and then had to drag and refresh where it got stuck spinning and by the time it loaded they were gone. So for me, that method is a no go. I've been successful with the pull down method every time.
