AVCHD camcorders

Anyone have any hands-on experience with the new AVCHD format camcorders? I am considering getting a new cam in the near future and the Panasonic HDC-SD1 looks interesting to me.

The format is so new I don't think there are many, if any programs that can currently handle it. Anyone know of any current video editing software that can import/edit AVCHD?

I like this one because there are no moving parts other than the zoom lens and LCD monitor and is very compact due to recording on SDHC cards.

Probably won't make my final decision until a lot closer to our next trip in Aug so hopefully some new software will be released by then.

I've looked at AVCHD. I prefer the format to HDV, but I don't like any of the camcorders. It is definitely not as well supported with software, but I suspect that will change pretty quickly this year.

The HDC-SD1 seems like a pretty expensive video camera missing some important high end features. Despite being HD, I haven't heard good things about it's video performance. No accessory shoe or headphone jack? If you want the a basic P&S video camera that does HD and looks cool, I suppose it's an OK choice. If you want to shoot really nice video, you can do better at this price.
