Avatar question

I probably shouldn't be posting this on this board, but here goes anyway.

I noticed that when I tried posting my avatar I kept getting an error message.

The first time I tried posting it said that mine exceeded the 14kb limit.....so I took my image down to about 10kb.

Then, after attempting to post again, it said I exceeded the 3kb limit.

So I then saved my file to the point where the color and clarity have become really deteriorated. I noticed everyone else's avatars look great and colorful.

Why did the site tell me 2 different file size limits? Did anyone else have this issue?

I think it depends on the file type. You're picture looks fine to me, I don't seen any distortion or anything. Of course I've never seen the origional LOL

I originally started with a 110kb jpeg....and I guess it just deteriorated so much because it wasn't that big (physically) but was still a relatively large file. Aaaaand I think I just answered my own question. *slaps forehead*

I get really picky about these things because I'm a photog.
