I heard the rumour but now confirmed (via themouseforless.com) - sorry if its already been posted... but i'm really excited and hope it will be completed by 2015, our next trip, makes it worth the wait

"Animal Kingdom
Disney Parks has announced a long-term relationship with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Filmed Entertainment to bring the fantasy world of AVATAR to life at Animal Kingdom Park. The new Avatar land will feature multiple attractions, entertainment, merchandise locations, restaurants and other immersive elements to bring the world of Pandora to life. Construction expected to begin in 2013."

I think it sounds awful. Gutted it's going ahead. Way to ruin Animal Kingdom.

They would have been better off listening to what the fans have been wanting for years - a kind of mythical/beastly land, especially seeing as they've already introduced the yeti via EE.

Im sure theyll do something at DHS in the future. Im sure ive seen some plans somewhere for developing DHS to have more cars & star wars themed things. I def remember a cantina style restaurant.

Same here. Animal kingdom has always been my least favourite so this could spike my interest again. I really enjoyed the film, and if the new land is built on a similar scale to harry potter at universal it will surely be pretty impressive at least.
I don't see that it can take anything away from AK. For those that wouldn't want to visit avatar land it would surely make the rest of the park quieter which could be a good thing?

im also disappointed by this. i never understood why the movie was so popular i personally hated it and found it very boring. animal kingdom is my second favourite park but if they are adding avatar land i definatly wont be visiting that much anymore. i cringe at the thought of it in disney

I think the Earful tower was always thought of as the original icon. The hat was put there in 2001

i heard about this within days of booking !! i was dissapointed as this would have been a big enough reason to make me wait !! i love avatar think its amazing one of the kids favourites aswell so i watch it alot !!

Whatever it is they're planning, it's not small. Florida has approved Disney's request to build an entirely new power plant right next to AK.

I think they're going to recreate Pandora's electromagnetic fields, so they can float unobtanium mountains!

I actually loved the film as did Dh and alot of our friends, and I'm really looking forward to the new film/films to come! Its one of my twins favourites to a point where he played the dvd over and over again it broke lol!
i know some people think it will ruin/take away from the park and they say they won't visit it much, but I just can't see IMO how that would happen? I also think it fits in with AK really well considering its about mythical creatures.

If you don't like The film then you can just skip that section of the park, I can see people going at least to have a look out of curiosity! Plus any new rides to that park will be a bonus as it doesn't have that much right now!
We love AK as a park already but dino land is a huge let down apart from dinosaur the rest is just boring!
The possibilities with Pandora are endless imagine the colours and rides that could be incorporated to make this land.

Anyways you can guess I'm a fan lol

Yes! I know, I think the same about dino land! I think it will be a great magical land to explore and even better if they fill it with rides! x

This is so cool! My next trip isn't until October 2015 and i'm crossing all my fingers that it will be completed by then... What do we think? or has anyone heard of any rumoured completion dates? I realise i may be asking that question a tad prematurely haha
