Avatar help

Ok, I know this is DVC unrelated but does anyone have any clue about how to get an avatar uploaded to these new forums? I have tried repeatedly and struck out. I just attempt to upload a jpg from my desktop. It says uploaded, but shows a little x rather than the image. Anyone else troubleshoot this already?
