'Avatar,' 'Coco' attractions are coming to Disneyland — and other big news from D23

Wouldn't making it more difficult for neighboring hotels to access the parks be an additional incentive for visitors to spend the $$ to stay at DLR hotels?

Personally, I think they are going to close off that entrance completely and require everyone to walk or shuttle to the new transportation hub.

In theory, but I believe Anaheim forced concessions this time when approving the project to ensure access from Harbor. It would also be extremely short-sighted by Disneyland. The reality is that there are very few rooms on-site. They are dependent on people staying offsite, and by far most visitors every day are not staying onsite. They need those guests. Alienating them and the hotels they're staying at would not be very wise.

Yes, the Disney hotels operate at almost 100% capacity a lot of the time already. There are not enough rooms, they need the folks coming from Harbor

There was in fact a lot of pushback from the Harbor hotels the last go-around with this parking structure plan. It is probably in Disney's best interests to come up with some sort of plan that doesn't ruin their relationship with the Harbor motels and hotels. As others have pointed out, Disney doesn't have the hotel capacity to fill up the parks on its own.

Yes, everything will move to the eastside parking structure similar to Mickey and Friends/Pixar Pals. Buses, security, pedestrian bridge, etc. The entrance area to the Esplanade from Harbor/eastside parking will be very narrow, but all they will need is a walkway - no more bus loops or security.

There are many unanswered questions. How long of a walk will it be from the parking area? Will they have a tram or shuttle of any kind? How will people staying on Harbor access the Esplanade?

Only time will tell with much of this.
That MiceChat article confuses things by referring to the shuttle bus dropoff area as the "tram loading area." They aren't trams like the one Disney runs from Mickey & Friends garage; they're shuttle buses from ART, Toy Story, and local hotels.

If Disney reclaims that area for attractions and moves the shuttle buses to a new parking area, either people are going to have to walk a long ways or Disney is going to have to provide transportation, as they currently do from Toy Story. And then...wait for it...they'll have to have a fairly large dropoff area to bring all those shuttle buses to the parks; it will be a lot more buses than they currently need for Toy Story.

Good points. The walk from the new parking structure wouldn't be that far though. We're talking about the equivalent of walking from the back of Best Western Park Place Inn or Tropicana (eastern most side) to the Esplanade. It's shorter than the walk from DLH.

It seems like moving the monorail tracks would be a huge project if Avatar is really going into that area. Plus, I wonder where they realistically could have all the busses and shuttles go instead? It's hard to picture where they'd fit a new transportation hub that would be convenient and not too far to walk to the park entrance. Across Harbor may be the best idea.

I like the idea of where Coco would go!

I'm wondering how they cross Harbor? Isn't that an issue with a tram?

They go across harbor, in the new lot.

I would think it would be an issue. Even if they got permission to build a bridge (where?), it would probably be squeezed in so tightly that it would have to have steep ramps, and could a tram handle those? That's why I speculated about Disney running shuttle buses, as they currently do from Toy Story.

Olliepop pointed out that the walk would actually be shorter than from the DLH, but it would still be a hoof. And it would undermine one of the advantages the Candy Cane Inn has. Why would they want to bus people over to a parking lot just so those guests can walk to the parks or get on another shuttle bus to get there?

Good point.!!
Taking a shuttle from Candy Cane to that lot would be pointless and a huge waste of time, but that's not really Disney's concern I'm sure. Maybe they'll leave the Taxi/Lyft lot to utilize somehow?

The map that Chili posted appears to be a more detailed version of the overview map on the City of Anaheim's Disneyland Forward page, which, yes, does show a parking structure behind some of the Harbor Blvd motels:

And who knows who made the one i posted, or the validity of it.

Hmm, i believe so, but i could be just falling for major rumors. lol
Disney hasn't officially announced dirt moving on the new garage, but they now have approval to actually do the project with the recent approvals from Anaheim. They wanted to do this several years ago but never got the permission. That's why even though the Coco and Avatar rides are not actually Disneyland Forward in terms of new land, they kind of are. Disney needed the eastern gateway authorization to do this initial work.

Again, all speculation until anything is actually confirmed and dirt is moving.

And Best Western Park Place, Tropicana, etc. Where's the access going to be for those across the street hotels? That's what some of us our wondering/speculating about. The official plans posted above isn't clear about Harbor facing access.

I for one am terribly sad about the thought of WDW ROA and TSI closing😭 Did the Mark Twain and TSI/Pirate’s Lair after the expo. So many things are closed or not working. It felt kind of pointless🙁

Ummm, Disney made it and, as I noted, it's on the city's website. Why would you question its validity?

It's also on the Disneyland Forward website:

https://www.disneylandforward.com/possibilities

The DF website also says this:

"In the future, Disney envisions creating a new parking destination on the east side of The Anaheim Resort, which would include one to three pedestrian bridges with upgraded entrance accessibility for hotels and businesses located along Harbor Boulevard."

I like the more detailed map you posted; where did you find that?
