Availability Tool/Booking discrepancy

Has anyone else noticed a discrepancy between the "availability tool" and actually booking a room?

I tried to book a room this morning, and it told me it wasn't available. I then went to the availability tool to check available rooms, and the resort/room type I wanted came up. So I went back to book it, and again it showed as unavailable.

What gives?

I had the same issue back in Feb.
Called MS and was able to book through them.

I noticed something similar recently when looking at booking the Poly-I suspect that the resort avail tool does not update immediately when a room is held for booking (you know when you get the screen that gives you so much time to complete booking) but only wen booking is complete as when I would check again in like 20 min it would show no longer avail on avail tool either

I, too, saw strange things with the Poly, but only the Poly. I routinely see the RAT updated immediately when rooms are held or come available again for every other resort. There seems to be something strange with the Poly; or the update to include the Poly broke something else.

Are the Poly studios opening in phases (not all 360 at once)? Maybe there is an added step for verification.

Poly is definitely opening in stages Tokelau will not open April 1 when other 2 longhouses do
Not sure if they have it avail for the fall bookings or if avail is currently limited to the other 2

Only 40% of the entire PVB resort's points have been declared, so that would limit the number villas that can booked at the PVB. DVC is often flexible in allowing different villas types to be booked considering this point restriction.

What I was told was the RAT shows all rooms including handicap accessible but unless you check that on your booking attempt it won't show.

Also, that day the resort confirmed the availability but MS did not show it as available but RAT did.

I think I read somewhere that the tool updates hourly not instantaneously.

I was somewhat surprised to see both the online booking tool and the availability tool. Realtime inventory is difficult to do in a web environment where you have thousands of people looking and potentially hundreds of transactions a minute (or more - we used to spend Thanksgiving day watching numbers for the top ten eCommerce site my husband was an architect on). You get close to realtime. MS probably has realtime inventory, but the other systems don't. The availability tool was probably never developed for realtime inventory, which stresses systems, and probably is getting a regular feed. Online booking is closer to realtime inventory, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that online inventory has a buffer, that member services sees one or two rooms when realtime inventory says booked to avoid double booking.
