I am a new DVC member so this might be a dumb question. We are going to in Florida in a few weeks so I thought we might do one night at Disney, I realize we are very last minute. The DVC sites shows zero availability in any hotel the night I am looking at so I went onto Disney to see about buying a hotel night. When scrolling through the available choices some DVC ones popped up, BLT was one, with a studio available for cash. I went back in DVC to make sure I didn't somehow overlook it, nope it shows them as sold out. If a DVC resort has available rooms why can't I book them? Help me understand what I am missing here, I tried to call DVC but they are closed for the night.

Different inventory. What you are looking at as available on Disneyworld.com is not rooms that can be booked with the points. The inventory for point bookings is all booked up.

Not all rooms at the DVC resorts are available for points. DVC itself owns some, typically 2%-5% they rent those through CRO. CRO also gets rooms when members trade out, it pays for their stay (cruise, etc).

As a member, you have access to rooms owned and controlled by members. If someone trades out, for a cruise, hotel, or whatever, then Disney gets that room.

Plus 60 days prior to any given date, DVC is allowed to transfer un-booked rooms to Disney for cash customers.

Welcome to the club.

You might call DVC Member Services & see if one of those rooms you see is available for a DVC member discount. Sometimes (not always) they have cash rooms available for about 25% off. Always worth checking.... Likewise if you have an AP sometimes I believe there are sometimes rooms available for an AP discount.

Best thing to do if you want chance to use points for a room is just keep checking DVC availability on a regular (probably more than once a day) basis and see if anything opens. Odds are not great, including because it sounds lke you may be seeking time near Columbus Day weekend, an extremely high DVC demand time (maskes Easter look like the slowest of off-seasons), but if seeking only one night, something might open.

They are also allowed to anticipate that breakage inventory and take it as early as 11 months out.

Give them a call. I was able to get a same night reservation by calling.
