Autotrain with Handicap, Using Walker

I am taking the Autotrain back and forth on my next WDW trip. I have traveled this way before, in the '90s, before I became disabled. So it's been a long time. My legs and balance are my problem, so I use a scooter to get around, and a walker for short distances.

I reserved a handicap bedroom, lower level on a 2-story Superliner car, and arranged meals to be brought to the room. It looks like I will be pretty much confined to my room; hallways look narrow, and seems you must go upstairs to reach other train cars like lounge car, dining car.

Anyone have experience traveling Amtrak with a handicap?

I can confirm that Handicapped is on the lower level. The paths are not big enough for a walker. Also the ride can be bumpy.

I did this from Houston to San Francisco a few years ago. It was one of the most relaxing trips I have taken. I took a pile of books and just kept my bed made up and read, read, read--looked at scenery, had my meals brought to the room and arrived so rested--even though it took 2 nights and 2 days!

Everything you need is right there in the room (except the shower and that was right outside the room.) I had my WC and there was enough room for it--a scooter might be a little crowded.

That sounds like a fun trip to San Fran. I would bring wc instead of scooter, so it would easier to handle in a rental car.
