I have a feeling my 5 year old daughter is going to have difficulty handling the gas pedal on the autopia cars. I am blanking out memory-wise. I can't remember how accessible is the gas pedal for an adult to sit on the passenger side while a 42 inch tall child is behind the wheel?

Oh sorry, I mean is the gas pedal within reach of an adult sitting on the passenger side to help step on the gas, while a child drives?

Yes, we have done this many times until the kids were big/strong enough to do it on their own. (It isn't easy to hold that gas pedal down!)

The gas pedal is located in the dead center of the car, so either person can press the gas pedal. It does have a strong spring on it so your daughters foot will get tired quick.

I had to hold the gas pedal for my son and he is 48" tall...he could reach it but the needed pressure was too much for him to maintain throughout the ride. It was quite easy and not at all awkward for me to hold the gas pedal down and let him steer. I guess Mr Disney & his imagineers foresaw our difficulties because it sure is set up well for the passenger to help out.

I honestly cannot see a younger child being able to do the gas pedal themselves. The pedal on my car was actually so hard to push I hurt my foot!

MY foot gets tired fast. It's hard to push.

I second this!!

Yep. You're 5 year old would have to be a pretty strong [like Hercules] kinda' kid. ;) He will be so busy steering he won't care if he doesn't push the pedal.

The pedal is so hard to keep pushed in that I have to alternate legs every now and again.

My DD11 still has difficulty with the pedal. I think she's about 52-53" now. The first time she was tall enough to ride it she rode with a friend about her height. They had a big problem with the gas pedal. They didn't enjoy it, hoped a CM would help them, and were almost in tears when they got off. Needless to say we didn't do it for quite awhile after that. Personally I almost hate the ride. :confused3

Mostly because they smell so bad and one time in the summer we sat for at least 10 min. (no lie!) waiting to unload. There were a bunch of young boys who kept pressing the gas pedal even though the cars were all stopped bumper to bumper and couldn't go anywhere. The smell, and the heat, where horrible! I actually feel sorry for the CMs on this ride.

My tip if you are going to ride in the summer is definitely wait until after dark. And do go with your child if they are smaller. Even if they pass the height limit.

You'll have no trouble pressing the trouble for her. Your foot might get tired (because the pedals are stiff) but you'll be able to reach it without trouble--every time we ride it, my son steers the car and I push the pedal. In my daughter's case, she steers and my husband pushed the pedal. Works perfectly every time!

It wasn't until last year that my DD actually drove the car herself. She was 10 years old and 5 feet tall. Every year before, I would ride with her to work the pedal.
