Automatic waitlist? hmmmmmm

Ok- I thought I understood the waitlist. But I don't. I was waitlisted for 1 night. It came through. But they called and left a message that if I want it to call back and conform by 5pm. I thought it was just auto-booked now. Guess not. This was for HHI- is it different for non WDW resorts maybe?

Anyway- the good news is I am 2 for 2 using the waitlist. I don't really care how they do it, as long as it works- and apparently- it works!

That happened for me in the fall. We were waitlisted for an OKW studio. We were in a 1 br, but really just wanted to save the points. We received a call letting us know that that the studio was available and to call back. We did and got the studio. So, hoping for the very unlikely, we waitlisted BWV. When I did that, I asked if we would be called. MS said no, that they didn't do that anymore because the waitlist was automatic.

I guess it depends on who is handling the reservation change at MS. Very strange.

I was put on the waitlist 9/11/07 for AKL for 12/12 and 12/13. First time I used it. Was told it would be automatic. Checked the website and didn't see anything change so I just figured nothing became available. I called on 11/28 to add the dining plan and was told the waitlist came thru, I think she had to manually change the ressie cause I didn't have any additional points left to use but I don't really know I was happy we got to stay at AKL

Just recently used the waitlist for my trip coming up in a week. Booked at SSR and waitlisted OKW. About a week later I noticed the change online and about 10 days after that a new confirmation letter came.

I wonder about these rooms though. When they become available and then a CM calls and says "We have a match- call back to confirm" What is the status of the room until you call? Is it an available room? Is there some kind of flag or hold on it until you call. They did give me a deadline- "if you want the room call back by 5pm" - so I am thinking if I didn't call by 5pm- then room would be released back to inventory (or given to the next in the WL line).
