I've been using Windows Live Sync, but I read they are closing down. :confused3 They recommend using the newer Windows Live Mesh 2011, however their forum seems to indicate lots of bugs or problems.

Other suggestions? Prefer not to use cloud storage for the files involved.

I have dropbox also, but I also like to keep the files in their original location on the desktop, and not have them out of place in dropbox. Hope that makes sense. I use dropbox for other reasons.

I'm using Windows Live Mesh, or whatever they called it as part of Live Essentials 2011. I have zero issues with it. It runs in the background and I never see it.

I'm just doing desktop to cloud sync, but have also used the remote access as well. My only complaint is when using remote access on Windows 7 (and I assume Vista as well) it will drop your computer out of Aero. Fine, I don't need translucent windows when remotely using my computer, but it doesn't return the computer back to Aero after you log off. You have to manually turn Aero interface back on.

I use a home server and use an online back-up service to store all my files. I don't keep much on my notebook computer, just files I'm working on at the moment, if I need another file, I'll just call up the online back-up service and pull down the files I need.
