Automatic room upgrade?

Another quick question......somewhat related.

I thought they only did upgrades on GTY rooms, but I read on here somewhere that even if you pick your room, they still may upgrade you. Is this true?

If they do this, do they take into consideration your preferred deck or area of the ship before upgrading?

Just wondering.

You can still be upgraded even if you pick your room. They will not take into consideration where you would prefer to be.

I have a question about upgrades. I am going on the Magic in December and already have my stateroom assigned to me. I booked a category 11 room through Costco travel. So, is it still possible that I might be upgraded and have a new room # assigned to me closer to departure??

It is possible. DCL once called us just two or three days before we set sail to inform us of an upgrade.

I just booked a Category 12 for 2 adults and two children. For our Land and Sea package. We are sailing on Dec 20/09.

We also got $125 in onboard credits and only had to pay half deposit.

Now, I am going to get a possible upgrade too?:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Awesome:banana:

You aren't going to get a possible upgrade, you will definitely get an upgrade because the Category 12 cabins only sleep 3, so you will be upgraded to at least a Category 11.

I thought I'd heard rumors that DCL stopped letting groups of 4 book a Cat 12 GTY. Guess it was just a rumor.

Hmmmm.....

Don't get me wrong; I'd be very grateful for an upgrade.

That said, I'd be perfectly content with a Cat 10. And I am not sure I would like to be upgraded to room with lots of noise or a part of the ship unforgiving to sea sickness.

The best advice I have ever read on this board is to book only the lowest category stateroom you KNOW you will be happy with should one of the few and far between upgrades NOT occur. :thumbsup2

Also - if you choose a particular stateroom or category for your own reasons - and you don't want to be moved - you can always have your reservation noted that you do not wish to be moved without your consent. (Obviously this does not apply to 4 people booked into a Category 12 as it will only hold 3) :)

Weird that you can book a room you all can't sleep in?! I'll take an upgrade. This will be our first cruise with Disney!:woohoo:

What is the difference betwen Category 12 and 11?

So far they still do it - as we booked a 12 last week for 4 of us. I was minutes away form snagging a "secret porthole room" (cat 10) which I would pay for but, literally, someone grabbed it out from under me while I hemed and hawed. Dang it!

So went with the 12 and am sure I will be thrilled, even if we all sleep on the floor!!:lmao: (Can you tell its my first Disney crusie?! My sons first cruise ever and my second, but I was so sick w/ morning sickness - read, ALL DAY SICKNESS - that I couldnt enjoy it much, nor could I have marguritas.....)

Cant wait :yay: - oh, thats right, I have to wait over a year! The boards will save me from going too nuts in the mean time!:dance3:

The only difference is the location on the ship. The cat. 12 rooms are all located on deck 2. By the way, I love deck 2.

For those of you that have cruised on DCL before, have you been happy with your category 11 rooms? Were there problems with noise or convenience of the location?

We were in a category 11 and had no problem. There was just my then 10 year old niece and myself, so we had plenty of room.

But I do love a window or better yet a verandah.

Have fun.

I am sure whatever room we get will be great. We will be spending most of our time out of the room! When I go to the room it will be to change or sleep!

Somehow, it doesn't make sense. since we are a family of four, we wanted a navigator's verandah-but since they only sleep 3, disney wouldn't let you do it.
But if you can get an upgrade that way,:thumbsup2 good for you!
