O.K. so I have a small complaint from our recent trip and I wondered what you guys think? I made an ADR for the Charcter breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, Grand Floridian. The reservation was for 9. When we arrived they seated my family at one table and BIL's family at one next to us. Kind of defeated the purpose of getting ressies together, but O.K. They were busy and we were close enough to at least see each other and take pictures. Well, when the bill came they added the 18% gratuity as if we sat together (we also had 2 bills). We were in a hurry to get out of there, so BIL and his family could get to MK, so I didn't give it much thought until later. Does anyone else think this is wrong or unfair? I mean it is a buffet, so it's not like there was a whole lot of "waiting" on us going on anyway?

The stated and published policy is that any group of six or more will get the automatic gratuity. This includes when one group is set at adjoining tables and also when there are multiple checks.

It does not matter if it is out opinion if it is fair or not, but it is Disney's published policy.

If it was two different tables and two different checks then they shouldn't have added it. In my opinion. I would have said something.
I always booked under one ress . my family , my parents (2) & bro's family (5). We all sat near each other at our own tables & all had our own checks.
Never got hit with that. We went out for years like this. IDK.

They will add the automatic gratuity no matter what for any parties of 6 or more. The only way to get out of it is if the party is split into two or more tables and each table has a different server.

Whether or not WDW's tipping policies are fair is one of the things we have had to curtail discussion of on the restaurant board as it usually ends up in personal attacks and closed threads. Information on tipping policies can be found in the Tipping Information Thread stuck to the top of this board. The first post on the Tipping Info Thread has the guidelines for discussing tipping. Because this topic is in effect inviting debate on whether Disney's automatic tipping policies are fair, I am closing the thread.
