Automatic flushing toilets

This is hilarious!! :rotfl2:

I thought my 4 year old was the only one with the problem and I was afraid to even ask the question.

I'll join the support group.

We leave in two days and will now pack POST-ITs!!

I love my seven year old to death, but this is my biggest pet peeve about her. She had to go sooo bad one day while traveling home. Se we stop at a rest area just for her to go to the bathroom. Brand new toilets, etc. She sees that they are automatic flush, "Nope. Don't have to go anymore." Even if I put my hand back there she won't go. Then I have a four year old whose favorite thing about going out in public is that she can go to the bathroom. If she sees a public restroom she HAS to go. I'm sure I look like All Star Mom. I've got one who will be crying and throwing a fit, and we argue everytime. Then I've got one who tells me she has to go to the bathroom and I tell her, "No you don't."

Liberty Tree Tavern has manual flushers....at least the Mens Room did.

But the BR's are small, only 2 or 3 toidy's. :umbrella:

My sister is like that too. On one trip, I'm sure we were quite the spectacle... she was almost 7yo and I was 7 1/2 months pregnant. Even though mom went with us on that trip, I had to be the one to go in and block the sensor since mom apprently wasn't experienced enough since it was mom's first trip. :)

This is really funny! I thought MY sister was the ONLY one who was scared of those things! She is 15 now, but when we went 13 years ago when she was 2 (yes they had them 13 years ago!) she was petrified of them! I was 12 at that time and thought she was a nutty 2 year old...times don't change!

May I suggest pairing going to the bathroom with a positive form of reinforcement (i.e., if you use the bathroom you can have ice cream! or bringing a child's favorite toy/book/stuffed animal into the bathroom with them so they can feel more comfortable). I know, very psychological of me, but what can I say...I'm a psychologist in training!

Add me to the Support Group :rotfl: :rotfl:

I truly thought we were the only ones with Autoflushing issues. Our first bathroom encounter was at our hotel lobby...AllStar Sports. My DD4 was petrified!! And that just set us up for the rest of the week :sad2:

I so wish this thread was around before we went...the Post-It Notes tip is great, and would have saved us a lot of angst!!

Thanks everyone!! Now we'll know for next time!!

Room for one more in the support group? :teeth:

Our DD (now 6) STILL hates these auto-flushers! Screaming fights just to take her into the restroom! When she FINALLY saw that holding our fingers over the sensor worked, she calmed a bit, but we still have to go in with her to cover the sensor.

Love the post it notes idea, and I'll arm her with those from now on! ;)

Not only do I have the auto flushing issue... it's strange toilets! Our last trip to WDW she held it the entire flight (From Iowa via Chicago), into the airport, the grocery store and thru the check in at the Contempary. Got our room keys... went to the room (where i know she will go) and the room was enhabited by another guest.... back out immediately... (garden room) and I leave her with my mom and head back to the front desk.... she decides that she needs to go now... so mom (with all of our carry on's) has to trek to the main building for the potty!

Thanks to everyone who responded. I will pass all the good info. along to my friends. I have really gotten a kick out of this thread. I have to young girls who don't like Auto Flush but it's not a problem. I was so surprise to see 27 hits. I had to laugh. :sunny:
