I remember reading somewhere on this board about a pen that people liked to bring with them for character autographs... but I don't remember what they were --- they were not regular sharpies - maybe bigger ones or something???

Can someone help me out - I am getting so excited I am trying to orgaize everything already :)

TIA
Laura

I think the preferred pen for autographs are the big ballpoint pens that they sell at the parks. They are about 7 inches long and a half inch or so in diameter. You could probably find similar pens locally if you don't want to by them at WDW.

The bigger pens are easier for the characters to hold on to with their big padded hands. And I think sharpies are more likely to stain their costumes.

just a big fat ballpoint. We've been three times with ds and each time took an unusual pen with us. We had one that you select the different colors, one that looked like a rocket and lit up when you used it, and one with liquid and a penguin that "swam" in it. Our son got tons of great interactions with the characters over those pens! They would play with the pen, make believe they were laughing, show other characters, and once two characters even "fought" over it. DS loved every minute of it........I'm hunting now for another unusual pen to take at Christmas.

We bought the big fat blue ball point pen that Disney sells in their gift shops 3 years ago when we went. Just got it out for our upcoming trip and it still works fine!! Can't beat that, won't have to buy another one this time!!:earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

I remember seeing Pooh go almost frantic shaking his head when a little one tried to hand him a Sharpie permanent marker. Then I heard the handler tell his mom that they don't like to use Permanent markers as it may stain the character.

Only heard that once, but since then we just use the ballpoint that we bought on that first trip which were in a Disney store right be side the autograph books.

Figures! :D I bought a pack of Sharpies in all colors when I was getting school supplies and saved them just for Disney. Oh well, one more thing to pick up before we go. :p

I use Crayola markers and I love it

I can alternate colors in the book and its big enough that all the characters can use it :)

We found the greatest Disney pens at (of all places) Claire's boutique at the mall! They're fairly big pens and they had an array of characters to choose from: Tink, Cheshire Cat, Milificent, Siamese Cats from Lady and the Tramp, and some others that have escaped me....

They were only $2.50 and seemed like the perfect size for a costumed hand!

We bought a pen when we bought the autograph book. I would rather have one that I know the characters can use. :)

We took a fat pen that I bought at Walmart that had 10 or so different coloured ink in it. The characters LOVED it! Tigger picked orange, Lilo wanted pink, Peter Pan wanted green. My kids had so much fun guessing which colour they would want :)

It's a nice fat pen too, so it's easier to hold I think! :earsgirl:

A just-in-case FYI - we bought the book and pen at Disney. That same day the pen died when Gov. Radcliffe signed our book (he made a big production out of it, it was great!). His handler told us to go and exchange it. We did, no problems whatsoever, and the CMs were very helpful about it.

AWESOME idea!! Thanks! I've seen those pens in places like WalMart and Target!

Was there last month with my Sharpie & had no problems getting autographs. We had a regular pen for humans & the Sharpie for non humans!

Same here! We have bought several at WDW. We had one fall apart while getting an autograph, and they told me to go to the nearest shop and exhange it for any pen we wanted. They also don't have to be expensive. I have seen them on sale in the parks. I bought a set of 6 fat Tarzan pens (each one with a diff. character) at the gift shop near Dinosaur and it only cost $5.00! The great thing is, if they break, they get replaced right away!

I have to say...the last 2 trips (this year) we took...the big blue pens w/the mickey head on top (has all autographs on it) STINKS!!!!!

It skips and sometimes doesn't write at all.
All the vendors sell them and they will all exchange them for new ones...BECAUSE! they are aware of the probnlem they are having with them.

I imagine no permanent markers should be used because it might get on their costumes and LOOk bad. Can't say i wouldn't blame them.
