Autograph books and stuff

We are going in April and I have heard a lot about getting character autographs. Some places suggest getting and autograph book before you go, is that better, are the ones at DL better, so they have DL logo? My DD who is almost 5 is somewhat shy and I am hoping this warms her up. Any suggestions?

I can't recall what is on the cover, but now they have ones where there is space for an autograph and next to it a sleeve for a pic. I wish I would have waited to purchase one of those.

The autograph books that you get at Disneyland are brightly colored, say "AUTOGRAPHS" and "Disneyland" on the cover and typically have Disney characters on the cover (all of the ones that my DS has gotten over the years have Mickey on the cover; most also have Minnie on the cover as well).
They are quite durable with hard plastic covers. They are sized perfectly for the character autographs. I think my DS was around your daughters age when he started getting autographs, and until he was a teenager, buying an autograph book was the first thing we did when we got to DL (or WDW). I don't know how much they cost these days (probably around $7), but I always considered them a great value as far as souveniers go. My DS cherished them. He still does.
I definitely think it's worth getting the real deal. Don't worry about being able to find them. Most shops and souvenier stands have them.

How big are they? I am wondering if they will fit in my med. sized fanny pack.

Just measured my daughter's blue book (not the one that has the room for the pictures too) and it around 5 3/4" by 4 1/2" . I think I read the ones that have the sleeve for the photo only hold a 3 x 5 photo and not the 4 x 6 size ones. We like just the standard blue books, I think they are $6. They are nice to have because my kids love to have the characters sign them and play tic tac toe with them. Stitch and Goofy have done this many times. Then when we get home I take the autograph and the photo I actually took while they got that particular autograph and put them both in a special scrapbook I made for each of my kids.

Right now they have one with the Fab5 (plus a few more) but I *hope* they'll get new ones for the 50th that might be for sale by April

When we were there last month, they had two different autograph books. One was pink with all of the princesses on it and the other was blue with I think Buzz and Stitch on it. They had them in both sizes (small that doesn't hold the pictures and the larger one that does hold the pictures).

I also recall there being 2 autograph books - a small one which would fit in a small bag but was not that distinguished, and the larger one, which was decorated with Disney princesses on the cover and throughout.

It had spaces to hold photographs on the inside and lots of room for autographs, which the characters filled up, often with personal messages for the girls.

They were for sale at the souvenir stalls just through the railway tunnels and are well worth getting, even if they cost a bit more than elsewhere.

Get them as soon as you arrive (you will sse characters everywhere) and put the child's name inside the cover as many characters check this first, and then write a personal greeting with correct spelling etc.
