Went to Target yesterday and found the perfect pen for autograph books at the Dollar Spot. The one I got was pink with green polka dots. It was very fat along the bottom of the pen and then tapered off towards the very top.

Also, where can I find just a spiral bound book with blank pages that is about 5x7 in size? Do I need to look at a specialty paper store? I didn't see anything like that at Walmart. Office Depot? Staple?

I guess I need to get to Target...been trying to find a couple good pens ofr our Dec trip...thanks:thumbsup2

I was just looking at my Walgreens sales ad and they have Disney Princess pens on sale this week for $.99. It is basically the same shape as the ones that I found at Target---fat at the bottom and tapers off at the top. I couldn't tell from the photo if it is as fat as the one at Target. Luckily, a Walgreens just opened up last month in our neighborhood so I can check it out :flower3:

Do you like the notebook idea better than a "traditional" autograph book? I'm only asking because I'm wondering about buying an autograph book from the Disney Smiles Store. Just looking for ideas. :)

Well, the autograph books that are sold at the Disney Smiles Store measure 3.5x6. I was hoping to find a notebook that was a bit bigger, 5x7. I plan on getting the autographs on one side only so that I can paste a 4x6 photo on the opposite side of each character autograph. I guess I could always crop the photos down to fit into one of those autograph books.

For the last 2 years I bought a 5X7 spiral bound book at Michael's for $4.99. Now I can't find one. I need to go back and try to find a clerk to help me. They worked well for us - photo on one side, autograph on the other. We also use the clickable sharpie pen.

The notebook is a GREAT idea w/ the photos. I wanted to get the autograph/photo books until I saw that there are only 32 pages total. 17 pages for pics & 15 for autographs. That just isn't enough. The "regular" autograph books have 50 pages.

I like your idea too. I love getting all the tips from here. They help out so much.

Was the sharpie messy?

No, not at all. I have another one to take this year. Just remember to click it back in. A couple of characters gave us a thumbs up for the pen. I think it is easier for them to hold, especially the ones who have gloves or bigger hands.

That is a really good idea. They come in plenty of colors. These aren't the new clickable ones that are tiny, right?

they have the regular size clickables too...we use them at work and they are great...never have to worry about losing the cap:thumbsup2

I always bring my scrapbooking pens and pages with me...
I take the pages out of the book, have the characters sign them, and return them to the book with pics later. It all comes together nicely decorated! I use 7X& creative memories pages and their pens too. I bring them in a box one of the books came in and I put the box in a couple of ziplocs, just in case. I have done this twice, and it always seems to work out!

In the past I have used a 4x6 sprial bound book from the scrapbook section at Hobby Lobby / Michael's.... it has a thick cordboard cover that could be decorated and covered.... I am thinking about using one again to take on our trip in Sept.... I like these books because the paper is a little thicker and if using a sharpie it won't bleed.... :thumbsup2

If you are having trouble finding the right size book, look in the drawing sections of Michaels, Hobby Lobby etc. That is where I found the "perfect size" book for some autograph books I made last yr. They are spiral bound and include a heavy paper w/o lines.

Walmart carries a scrapbook-type autograph book in their craft section for about $2.00-3.00. It is 6 in by 6 in with a spiral binding, and comes with a "foamie" type (Creative Hands is the brand name) cover that can be decorated by your child or left plain. I purchased this version for my DS 6 -- he is going to decorate it with animal stickers (or pirate, he can't decide -- remember, he's 6!). For my DD's, age 10 and 8, I found the same type of book, except theirs were "kits". These were approximately $4.00-5.00 and contained all of the necessary embellishments. The best part . . . they are PRINCESS themed! Not Disney, of course, but they can be nicely decorated accordingly (princessy) -- foamie castles, crowns, "real" jewels, etc. It's cute, my girls loved the look and they get to decorate it themselves. Also, the retractable Sharpies or Bic Mark-its clip nicely into the spiral binding. Hope this idea helps someone . . .

I bought spiral-bound colored notecards for my girls. They are lined on one side and blank on the other. I bought the fat sharpies, and attached them to the spiral with wire-lined sparkly ribbon. The notecards are perforated along the top so you can remove them later.

I made them travel journals printed on card stock paper (for easier writing), punched holes in them, then attached them inside a portfolio folder with the same wired ribbon. I also bought the big fat pens that the characters like to use. The folders and the pens both have the High School Musical theme on them (my kids are crazy about HSM) - I got them at Limited Too.
