You can book auto train "coach" or "first class".
Coach is buying seats, and a vehicle
First class is buying seats, vehicle, and booking a room.
With both classes you will get 2 meals; dinner and breakfast. Meals in first class are upgraded and include I think both red and white wine, plus some wine and cheese gathering pre-dinner.
Family traveled last March, coach and enjoyed it very much. Husband and I will be on the auto train late October out of Sanford and are booked into a Superliner Bedroom which is about twice as large as a roomette. I can report back after we get home if you want.
Following is info that I cut and pasted from another board
as well as links to really good auto train info here on the DIS.
We took the auto train last March. Personally, I would not wait for discount codes. When we bought our tickets, the price never went down; but we were traveling during a busy spring break period. Are you traveling during summer vacation? If so, probably not too many discount codes. Also, you may want to talk to Amtrak; the website can be a bit deceiving. The website led me to believe that once I "purchased" the tickets online they were non-refundable, but really they were only non-refundable after the tickets had been picked up at the station, which in our case was not until the day we left. Have you been on auto-train before? There is a difference between reserved coach seats and lower level coach seats. Let me know if you want details; and then also if you "buy a room" which means going first class, but also considerably more expensive. Also we traveled mid-week and the train was only about half full. Pretty much everyone on the train was able to spread out across 2 seats. Also if you have an American Express card and rack up any kind of rewards, they can be redeemed for coupons on Amtrak. Any more questions, let me know. We loved the whole experience and would love to find an excuse to do it again.

The cars are all double decker. Upper level seating is just like what you think of train seating. Two seats on each side of an aisle, and you walk from car to car on the upper level. There can be lots of foot traffic moving around from car to car. On the lower level, the car is split sort of in half. You come down a set of stairs and to the left, or in our case forward part of the car are the bathrooms. I think there were 4 bathrooms; 2 were pretty much like your standard aircraft bathroom, 1 had a changing area in addition to the toilet/sink , and 1 was a full-on lounge kind of thing. The lounge had a room with stools facing a mirror and a sink , and then a separate toilet/sink. I pretty much used this bathroom for the whole trip. There was enough room for me and my 2 teenage girls to get changed, brush teeth, put on make-up etc in the morning. To the right is a "compartment". The compartment has I think around 12 or 16 seats. There is plenty of storage space overhead. There is a door to the compartment. This is where our seats were; and we had the seats at the far rear of the compartment, so we had all the room behind our seats as well. I kind of think of the compartment as a caccoon. Kind of like a dead end street. You can't walk through to anywhere else, so the only people coming and going, are the people that are seated there. It was very quiet; when it came time to sleep, my teenagers spread out across our 4 seats, my husband slept on the floor behind the seats, and I ended up spreading out on the upper level across 2 seats. Strangely, we all got a pretty good night's sleep. Yes, there are power outlets on the wall adjacent to the seats (at least there were on the lower level; don't remember about upstairs.) Food was very good. When you check in to the train, you choose your dinner seating time. I want to say they were like 5:30 and 7:30PM. Complimentary white wine. Cash bar for everything else. The bar/lounge car is open before and after. The bar car has self serve beverage/snack service all night long. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate,WATER (important for me because I don't do caffeine, and I'm always thirsty) bananas, apples; stuff like that. I can't say about soda, because none of us really drink it. A nice sit down breakfast in the morning. Train makes one stop in South Carolina to fuel, somewhere around 1, 2 AM. The only people that got off, and then back on, were Amtrak employees and a woman with a service dog. I woke up and sort of watched out the window because I thought it was fascinating. Everybody else slept through it. I think scheduled arrival time in Sanford is 9AM, but we ended up getting in closer to 8 AM, and we had our van and we were on the road before 9AM. Don't know what kind of vehicle you will have, but check-in time for "oversized", i.e., van or SUV is an hour earlier than for a regular car. I think like 3 hrs before dept as opposed to 2 for a car. Worked out good for us, because we got those seats at the rear of the lower compartment, so we had that room behind us. They let you board about an hour before departure. If we were going again; 1. Book early. I didn't book at the first opportunity because I mistakenly thought the tickets were Non-refundable. Check the fine print though, it may have changed. I could have booked "sleeper" cars or first class for the same price I ended up paying for coach. I found the price will do nothing but go up. And the price goes up for the vehicle as well as the passengers. 2. If I couldn't go first class, I would book lower level. You are on the same level as the bathrooms, less motion, way quieter and peaceful. 3. Check in early, and ask for the seats at the back of the lower level car. 4. Bring my tervis tumbler with lid so I have cold water at my finger tips 5. Bring a sheet or something to lay on the floor so I could spread out. We had our own pillows, and fleece blankets. They do provide pillows and blankets. That's all I can think of for now.
