Auto train experience

We took the auto train down on 7/31. We arrived in Sanford at 8:15am. Our van was the 5th vehicle unloaded. We have never arrived that early before. During the night we did not feel the train stopping at all. Usually it stops several times during the night but we never felt it. We are a family of 5. We were able to get 1 room upgrade so DH and DS 6,8 took the room. DD 4 and I took the coach seats. DD was so cute. She kept asking where the button was to have the man come and turn our seats into beds! I kept calling our seats our invisable room! This was her 3rd roundtrip and has had sleepers for all the other trips. We were in Disney by 10 am. OKW had a rm ready for us too. I was totally prepared to spend the day at the park and then come back to check in.

Our return on 8/9 Also arrived at 8:30 am in Lorton. We had a little longer wait to get our van. We left the station around 9:15am to head to CT. Again we did not feel the train stopping at all. It was definitely a jolting ride during the night. Must have been the Carolina's. We did have 2 sleeper upgrades for the return. Although DH managed to put me in one room over then we should have been. Apparently it was the Chief's room. I offered to move over 1 room but they insisted that it was okay since we were already settled in.

In years past we have been several hours late arriving but this time was wonderful that we were ahead of schedule.

How was the traffice getting to Lorton.

We're leaving next Friday and I'm planning 8 hours to get there. I've done it in 5, but I feel I'm better off planning the extra in case of traffic.

We had no problems with traffic either way. We left CT at 220 am. We were in Maryland around exit 109 by 720am for breaksfast. We arrived in Lorton around 11 am. It seems like a long time but we have to factor in Bathroom stops with 3 kids so it can take 20 mins each stop. If we saw any traffic it was due to accidents/construction and they were all on the Northbound sides. Do you have your directions? We have tweaked ours out so we avoid traffic and some of I95. Let me know if you would like our directions.
