Australiankaren is back in the building

Our first TSA agent at LAX asked me about the food I was declaring, "is it Lollies or is it candy?"
Smarty pants much?

We also got asked a few times if we were English, pretty sure the English wouldn't like to think us ockers talk like them ;)

Austria does not = Australia, another misconception around the world it seems, when we told a lady we were from Australia she said "oh Austria, I've never been there"

;) @ Hyundai, we hired a Santa Fe 4 cylinder, no guts!

seriously people, do I look/ sound/ski like an Austrian.....and would a self respecting Austrian be driving a $%^$#& Hyundai with the horse power of a disabled hamster (no offence to any disabled hamsters out there)....

so, they offloaded the hyundai onto you guys as well........I wish we got a clown car:clown:

I just added "thingy" to everything ie Lollie thingy, they got so confused they let me thru ....

Oooo I'm going to write thingy on our declarations form now! Thingy is my standard term for many things :)

I got to be the teacher librarian the other day and kept thinking "what would Karen do?" So I read to them like I normally would with my assorted funny voices but over-emphasised my silly gestures while pretending I was a ninja pirate fireman. But no sweaty teenage boys to contend with; it was sweaty preps and 1s with ants in their pants :)

oh, and don't forget koalas, kangaroos and drop bears....

like shooting fish in a barrel.

drop bears are an easy mark- I was asked about koalas as the person had heard they could be nasty- well I said that's true. they can really latch on with those claws

but not worried about them. it's the drop bears that are really frightening. walking through the bush when a large white bear drops on you and attacks. had them mesmerized- it was tops.

the other thing was in Memphis airport sitting next to a lady who said we had a great accent.
'where are u from?' 'Australia' 'Is that is Europe?'

'no that's Austria we're Australia '

'oh where's that'

'down the bottom of the globe'

then came the killer blow

'is that near New Zealand, you speak really good English.'

'yep that's us the little island next to New Zealand. my English had gotten better since I've been here the last three weeks and practiced. but they start teaching us English from birth so it's been great to use it so much'

There was just no other way to approach it. if I didn't laugh I would have had to cry (or called a really nice lady a moron)

Actually that was a bit rude of me - jumping in on your thread with a 'nyah-nyah', smarty-pants kiwi comment..:rotfl:

Let me start again by saying welcome back! - and looking forward ever-so much to food porn piccies...

I actually got asked if Australia was a part of New Zealand by an American once :)

Now after 22 yrs of marriage I have learnt that sometimes being a martyr for an hour can make you a queen for a year.......

so he feels so thankful i didn't put him on the train of doom that I am getting Queen, not princess, treatment.......but this is our little secret, he thinks it was because I love him:rotfl:

silly man:rolleyes1

And that my friend is exactly the reasoning in saying " yeah, sure go and fly yourself off to Cleveland for a couple of nights so you can cross the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame off your bucket list. The girls and I will be fine, we can stay here at the GCH and enjoy ourselves whilst you're away, we can even pack up and move hotels so you won't have to worry about it when you get off your 5 hr flight back to LA. Off you go darl, you enjoy yourself".

Bahaha... I am now wife of the year, poor bugger is blissfully unaware that I will be repaid somehow, hehehe.

Yippee AustralianKaren, you are back!!!! :cheer2: You have certainly been missed on here and, although we did pretty well with our postings while you away, I can see the activity has heated up a notch again now that you are back :lmao: (I have been away and off the Disboards for a week) It's great to see the photos you have posted and I am really looking forward to your TR too :thumbsup2
