Normally we would take the I-10... but even if the road is fixed by Oct 1st I don't think there will be any services (fast food, gas, rooms). So we will take the longer route to the north.

I think it is the I-20. Is that far enough inland to be mostly ok? Will we pass through any hard hit areas? Can anyone give me a good guess on travel time from Austin to Orlando? If it helps, it takes us 2 1/2 hours to reach Dallas. I am ignorant when it comes to geography so I have no idea yet what taking this route entails. We are thinking of driving straight through...

Bumping this up for you.

Looking at a map, US 79 runs up to Shreveport where you could catch I-20 if you wanted to avoid Dallas traffic. I don't know how it might compare in driving time but looks to be closer in terms of mileage.

After entering Alabama, I-20 veers to the north a bit toward Atlanta. After leaving Mississippi, you could take US 80 to Montgomery and then US 82 into GA to catch I-75.

I'm sure there are people on here in those areas that would be able to help with road conditions, drive times, etc.
