Aussie Disneyland Planners come on in and lets plan together :)

I don't know if you have to carry prescriptions on you but I would anyway. If your bags get lost or something and you end up without your prescriptions it would be very inconvenient.

Another medicine question for anyone that knows, is there anything that we are not allowed to bring into the US? What I think I will have is 2 kinds of puffers and some antihistamines. I am just wondering if I am going to have any issues getting them through customs.

xxxx

Codiene is an issue (ie Nurofen Plus, Panadene) but regular Nurofen and Panadol are OK.

There is a US govt website which lists what is a "controlled substance" which is basically everything that you need to get a prescription for. I'll try and find it.

My DH has a wide range of puffers etc and didn't have any issues, when he got the last lot of scripts made up before we left he had the chemist put the sticker on the container where possible, and for prescription only he took a Dr letter.

kylie, when you say he got the chemist to put the stickers straight on the meds instead of the box, do you mean the prescription sticker with names and dosages and stuff or are you talking about some other sticker?

Yep, the sticker with the doses etc. For example for DH's ventolin which we normally buy over the counter, he doesn't need it that much, but just in case, we got a prescription from Dr and got the chemist to put it on the blue tube rather than the box, only so we didn't have to carry all the boxes. But for my tablets, which is like any normal box of tablets with strips inside the prescription sticker was on the outside as normal.

I found the general info about taking medicines - http://sydney.usconsulate.gov/irc/faq/travel/misc.html#medications

This is the one listing all the medicines. It is a US government site.

http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scrip...ion=Search.SearchResults_Browse&DrugInitial=A

Look up the name of the medicine using its long generic name (eg the name that can be difficult to pronounce...) Select the entry. If that particular drug is Prescription in the marketing status column then you will need it on prescription coming from Australia, for example anything with Codeine. Some antihisitimines are also prescription only in the US, so check first incase you have to get your Dr to prescribe an over-the-counter table here.

Thanks for posting that info Kylie. One of my DD's eczema medications (an OTC antihistamine) has a 'discontinued' marketing status in the US. Wonder what that means?

DH and I went shopping today and everything we looked at we're saying "it'll probably be cheaper in America" LOL

I am close to buying our Disney tickets, i'll get the 14 day pass just to be sure and travel insurance and also ordered some more money today, we are way too organized for us, I guess it's because we have a 3 year old to organize as well.

6 weeks to go :cool1:

Codiene is an issue (ie Nurofen Plus, Panadene) but regular Nurofen and Panadol are OK.

Maybe we've been lucky but on our two previous trips to the USA we have carried Codral ( which contains codeine) without any problems whatsoever. I just has a single sheet of the tablets in my toiletries bag ( not a whole box) and we didn't raise a flicker of interest in a total of 7 US airport security checks. The toiletries were in our carryon bags in 2005 and checked in 2008.

DH also travels with asthma puffers and has never been asked to show a prescription.

The only hassle we had was at Boston airport when they said he was carrying too much "stuff" ( photographic equipment plus laptop plus electronics) in his laptop bag. It just meant they had trouble making out everything on the Xray. After an examination of the contents they waved us through

I've probably jinxed us now :-)

Does anyone know when you exchange the expedia 14 day coupon for the actual tickets, if we need to show id to prove we are Australian?

OMG 2 more Sleeps !!!;)

Question around prescriptions - do you have to carry them on the plane with you to show in the USA on arrival ?

Is there any danger in packing a pair of scissors in your checked luggage ? Is that a guarantee your bag will be searched ? What about eyebrow pluckers and nail files ?

:cool1::cool1: Yay for you!

Well I just wanted to share that I bit the bullet and booked Fantasmic PS. I was tossing up so much whether or not I should. I had read a lot that you need to book at 8am 30 days out and if you don't call at 8am you will prob miss out as they sell out in seconds.

So I told myself that I am going to have my normal Saturday morning sleep in :thumbsup2 and I will call when I get up and if they still have seats then I will book them, if there is none left then oh well.

So I got up late (not as late as I would have liked though, my body is still on get up for work time :confused3) and called. As it turns out there were enough seats left so I booked. We can also stay in the PS area to watch the new Halloween fireworks afterwards too. So I am happy that I did it now. Hey, it's only once in a lifetime so I may as well splurge, don't want to come home regretting not having done things :thumbsup2

Good on you! DH and I were talking last night and we have decided to do the Fantasmic seating too. We are there over Halloween weekend, and expect the parks to be packed! It will be so much easier with the kids to just grab a seat and sit down. Our youngest DD doesn't like other people in her space, so that is a plus!

I'm confused about watching the fireworks. I know there are a few launch pads but the main focus is the castle.

so the seating for Fantasmic is benches right at the water's edge...so how do you see the fireworks from there???
(I'm just curious...not being negative :) )

BTW - I'm happy you are happy about your purchase. We all take our priorities in our lives as to what experiences we choose to splurge on so I really hope you have a wonderful time. :goodvibes:

What I currently splurge on is tours. I'm going to be doing the cruzin california adventure segway tour as well as the Epcot segway tour and Fort Wilderness segway tours in WDW. That is around $270ish just there. I also did the BSM 7hr tour ($200 a pop) at WDW last time which was downright amazing.

MEDS - As for medications we have never had any problems with anything and we have all sorts of stuff. My mum is a pharmacist and goes to the trouble of labelling OTC meds that may be an issue and never have we been asked anything about them or had our bags opened...so the labels weren't looked at.
Mum and I need Nurofen plus as well as high dose codeine to deal with migraines should one get particularly nasty. I carry a strip of NP, each of my prescription meds and hayfever meds in my purse with no labels.
BUT - labelling is a good idea to be on the safe side. (certainly on boxes) And you should ALWAYS have a prescription on you in case of lost items.

Did anyone get a "pending approval" notice on their ESTA application??

I done ours a couple of weeks ago and they came through straight away approved. Today we done my sisters one and hers has come back with the "Pending Approval" and to check in within 72hours...I'm just wondering why thins might be and if anyone had this and it was all ok...there is no reason for my sisters to be denied, it just seemed odd that ours were all accepted straight away.

That's great news!!!! It will be so much more helpful to have separate posts on things like currency exchange, tipping, etc rather than having to read all the way through one HUMUNGOUS thread :)

Next stop WORLD DOMINATION :lmao:

Not sure who Pete is???? Really?? God, I have to work on my name recognition :)

Especially after spending 3 weeks in this beautiful country and getting to meet so many wonderful people - I have no problem at all giving our Aussie friends whatever they need to help feed their Disney obsession :)

Give me a few days to get home, get 'un-jetlagged' and we'll make it happen.

Honestly - this is the most beautiful place on earth and I hate to leave. I hope you Aussies appreciate the place you live - we just need to help you work on your burgers :)

Pete
