It basically says that so long as your travel insurance covers medical expenses you should be right.

I just went and read my travel insurances policy on Goverment Travel Warnings, basically says we aren't covered.

Government Travel Warnings

Unfortunately there are no simple blanket rules for travel insurance cover where travel warnings are in force since these warnings vary in severity and by government.

However there are three general rules of thumb that illustrate insurers positions in regard to Government Travel Warnings.


If it's generally known that an area is experiencing a period of instability and things get worse before you travel you probably wont be covered for any costs/booking charges or expenses that you've incurred in cancelling. IF you are determined to visit a region where it is generally known that the political situation may deteriorate, act as if you don't have insurance - pay as low a deposit on your airfare and bookings as you can and don't pay the balance until you need to.

If you go somewhere which has experienced minor problems and things get much worse while you are in the area and you get hurt, your insurer will probably provide assistance as long as the deterioration in conditions was not generally expected.

If your Government is advising against all travel or all but essential travel there probably isn't any coverage at all - simply don't go there.


We will just wait it out and see what happens, we don't have a choice. All flights etc are paid for.

the people in quarantine in NZ are being given tamiflu - maybe if you are going soon you should buy some to take over with you.

I can't see Australia putting up a 'don't travel to the USA' travel warning, especially since cases have been in Spain, NZ, Israel. For Mexico I can see them saying don't travel there since they are closing many tourist places and the locals are panicking.

I actually think it would be best to actually contact them before you travel and see what they say, but it is a bit early to worry if traveling later in the year, IMHO.

Yep I totally agree. I am just going to hang tight and take each day as it comes. I am sure I was in Asia when either Bird Flu or SARS was around.

No travel warnings have been put out, so insurance will still cover you. If the Australian Government issues a warning, then it's a different sitution.

There have only been deaths in Mexico, and I think Tamiflu is a perscription drug, but I could be wrong. There's another antiviral medication that has been shown to work... It starts with an R, but I can't remember what it is

I've left it a bit late, but I wanted to make sure Blue Bayou would be open while we're there, but I want to go there again.

I also want to go to Hooks Point, Steakhouse 55, Carnation Cafe and Pizza port,

I wanted to go to Yamabuki, because we only got take away from there last time, but now it's shut so I think we're going to head over to the Garden Walk, because I think there are some Sushi places there.

There's so many places there that I want to eat, but with a limited amount of days, we wont be able to fit them all in...

When we were in WDW everything was booked because we did the dining plan.
This time though I don't think we will have enough time for sit down dinners it will be grab and run.
The only real restaurant I have heard of is Blue Bayou, I assume it will be pretty expensive, and with a 16 year old DS I might just go looking for an all you can eat buffet

I actually found that when it comes to meals, they're generally a lot cheaper then any restaurant in Oz.

DF and I usually spend $100 for dinners any where around home, when we were in the states last time, $50-70 was the maximum, and we ate at the Blue Bayou, The Rainforest Cafe, Ralph Brennan's plus numerous places in CT and NY.

After our last trip, I decided that just grabbing stuff for food was not the best idea, so this time, it's restaurants the whole way.

Definately will be making a PS for Blue Bayou. We ate there in October and didn't find it expensive at all. Two main meals and soft drinks came to around 52.00, so with tip it was around 60.00. There was way more food than either my dd or I could eat. Next time we will split a plate and have dessert

How about we pop the hotel in our signature? I am staying at Park Vue has anyone else stayed there?

In regards to PS bookings, I think I want to try out Cafe Orleans as we did Blue Bayou last time. Loved the Gumbo

What about DD, anyone have a favourite restaurants there? We tried Rainforest Cafe, without a booking and had about a 30 minute wait.

Made a few changes, added my details, the Disney Dining number from Oz, and the cash passport website.

Czardas - I stayed at the Parkvue inn last year and thought it was great! Such a good price, the location is the best possible, and if you want it's possible to watch the fireworks from there, we actually watched them from 2 occassions from our window. Breakfast is good, and they have free internet access.

Yay free internet, that is always helpful as we continue to try and run our business whilst away. Paid a fortune for it last year and it was ooh so slow.
I read a really yuk review on Park Vue in the trip reports yesterday, so was starting to worry.
I booked here so we didn't have too far to walk, as DH had a bad accident last year and I didn't want him to get too tired.

With the PS's, BecBennett have you eaten at all of those already? I have heard so much about Blue Bayou but only went past it, last time we got to eat at Club 33 so missed out booking Blue Bayou. All the others sound good. I think the food in Australia is much dearer that anything we have had even in Disney. Alot of the mains in Melbourne are now as much as $45 and that's not high end eating either!

Even just buying water in DL is much cheaper than in your local shopping centre in Australia, that irks me the most. Oh and the price of soft drinks, and the fact that our cafe's etc charge for ketchup and mayo.

I priced some travel insurance today and travelinsurancedirect was probably the most competitive comparing like for like, for our 20days ends up being $248,Racv was $440 !! Everyone else already book insurance??

I haven't got my travel insurance yet but know plenty of people that have used Travelinsurancedirect.
As we will also be skiing we need to make sure we are covered for snow sports and TID does, so that is probably the way we will go.

I know there was a code somewhere for a discount, will go and try and find it I think it was for 10% discount.

I've eaten at BB before, the meals are massive! I tried the infamous monte christo, and only managed 1/4 of it - literally - it's cut into 4 pieces, and I only managed to eat one of them! The gumbo is amazing - and I don't even know what gumbo is. But the real reason we go is for the atmosphere!

Yeah the soft drink thing amazed me at DL. The first night we were there before we went to the Uva bar for a few drinks - I don't drink, but was more then willing to people watch - and in the end I had to walk away from a half full glass of coke because the bar man kept topping up my drink before I'd get to the bottom. I even told him a few times that I was fine and didn't need another drink, and he'd just smile and go "ah go on!" and fill it up. It was pretty funny, but I hate leaving a drink!

Oh, and I also love that EVERYTHING comes with ketchup!! You have to ask for it everywhere here, and a lot of the time they just don't have it!

I bought my travel insurance yesterday through worldcare. They came in the cheapest for me, plus there's no excess on things like medical, or delayed luggage, which I think is the most needed items. It came in cheapest for our group of 3, at $213
