Hi everyone !

Haven't been to Disneyland in years & looking at a trip in early December.
Can you offer me any advice , sorry if they are the same questions you always see

When does Qantas or Virgin do specials for December ? I have Qantas points for one ticket but they want $800 in taxes !! Is China airlines , Delta ect any good ?

We would love to stay at The Grand Californian hotel BUT do they still do random 30% discounts sometimes ? We might stay at Paradise Pier for 4 nights instead if anyone can recommend it ?

Is early December still a quiet time to go or has Cars land put a stop to that ?!

Is Captain Kidds family Restaurant still THE place for fine dining

Hi. We're going for the first two weeks in December to LA. first week in LA/Hollywood Hills doing not much, then a week in Anaheim.


On the airfares we picked up a great deal with Qantas for the three of us, though that was 4 months ago. Under $3k total for 2A and a 11 year old! There were some more specials a few weeks ago, but I think they're over. I'm not sure about Virgin. If you are ok taking the kids out of school (assumption that you have kids) the prices will be a bit cheaper up to a week or so before the private schools start their holidays in the first week of December.

Hotels I'm not sure about either, though the main Disneyland boards think that there won't really be any specials in December.

It is not worth it to redeem qantas points on an economy flight to LAX, due to the outrageous fees and taxes, particularly if in off peak times, best to keep an eye out for a red-e deal. We have flown virgin on points they have since reduced their taxes from the $800 mark to $140 return, so of you have points you can use with virgin or delta that would be the way to go.
You may be lucky to get another deal, but be ready to jump on it!

True. I recently discovered that if you are willing to stopover in Fiji, you can use your Qantas points for Air Pacific flights and only pay a couple hundred in taxes

Around $1150 - $1300 from the East Coast seems to be the standard special this year; depending on when you're going and which carrier.

$800 in taxes would mean $250 one way tickets. Hmmmm!

At a travel expo earlier in the year we were told that Qantas and Virgin were thinking of moving their 'high season' flights back to 1 December! So any further deals may need to be before that date.

Someone has posted a link to the USA travel expo - they sometimes have good deals.

I'm staying at PP at Easter, based on my sister's advice, she stayed there last Sept/Oct. She said the rooms are bigger than GCH (we stayed there 3 years ago), and lighter and brighter. We've booked a premium view concierge room (which cost almost as much for the week as our sale airfares ).

Paradise Pier is a lovely hotel, not as detailed in theming as the Grand Californian but still Disney. The theme park view rooms are worth the upgrade in my opinion, especially if you're going in off season when Disneyland don't have fireworks nightly, you can catch Workd of Color (or a side view anyway) from the warmth of your room. Qantas are about to increase their fuel surcharge, so their 'taxes' will go up even more!
