Aulani

we are going to Aulani is June. Due to some hectic life type things, we did not book it until recently.

There was no DVC availability for the stay, so we took advantage of a Visa cardholder offer. It came to a bit over $5000 for a week. We would have also been using most of our points from next year.

After booking, I decided to look at adding on to our membership and decided to do a second master contract with our adult daughter.

The cost of adding on direct was slightly higher than just booking the one week.

We wound up waitlisting the Aulani stay, keeping the cash reservation just in case.

Over the course of the last week, we have gotten all but the last night of the stay booked!

We have been to Hawaii numerous times, have stayed and own at the Marriott Ko’Olina, renewed our vows on the beach where Aulani is now, and did a hard hat tour of the building while it was under construction.

This will be our first trip to Aulani.

We love aulani. We have 380 points there but over 1000 points at other resorts. We always go in may and stay 10 nights in a one bedroom ocean view. It’s 50 points a night so we just book at seven months and combine other points to get to 500. We have never had a problem in may but after Memorial Day it gets very hard to book at anything less than 11 months. The cost of our one bedroom is over 1000 a night so I always feel like we get good value for our time there.

Over the course of the last week, we have gotten all but the last night of the stay booked!

Do you mind if I ask, was it piece meal that the nites became available or one big block. Also what type of room and view. We are going to go in a couple of years and would like June, but from looking at availability we might have to go in July. Last year July looked pretty easy to get at 7 months. I think part of June is less points, so probably more popular.

We did have to piecemeal the reservation. Can’t really complain since we are under 90 days.

Aulani makes using points look like a phenomenal deal. Our cash stay did not include $36 a night for parking. Since our daughter is now 18, there was also an additional $100 a night fee for her. For DVC using points, those fees both go away.

We start off the week before at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club (Lahaina/Napili) and then Aulani.

We also tacked on a few nights in Seattle. Never been, saw the connecting flight and added the extra few. My wife asked “what’s in Seattle “, to which I answered, we are good to find out!

Thanks for posting this. I didn't even think of Aulani, but I will when we do our Hawaii trip. Will have to look if cheaper to use points versus cash.
