My daughter (19) and I want to make Aulani our 2016 vacation, BUT.... she has a deathly allergy to pineapple - like the same reaction people have to peanut allergies.

Is it completely crazy to think we could ever vacation in Hawaii? Every menu item seems to have pineapple involved. Or for sure there is pineapple 'around' the cooking area for sure.

She doesn't want to be stuck eating deep fried chicken fingers and fries all week - is it completely crazy to even consider going there?

pineapple is definitely around most parts of Oahu...

if it's as bad as some of the worst peanut allergies (i.e. can't even be near peanuts due to sensitivity to the dust) then I'd probably say play it safe and avoid Hawaii altogether.

if it's as simple as not coming into direct contact or eating it, that would probably be very do-able at Aulani (and most of Hawaii is safe in that regards too although...probably best to avoid the Dole related tours/etc. as that's probably the only way to be put in a situation where some kind of contact with pineapple might be unavoidable), and most of the time it's fairly obvious as to what foods have pineapple in them (they tend to make it visually obvious that yes there is pineapple in/on what you're eating)...although checking with a chef/etc. is still probably a good thing to do.

pineapple isn't in everything, and the majority of non tourist focused food places don't have any pineapple offerings at all (within Waikiki or many resorts there will be a lot more pineapple than anywhere else.)

there are far more eating choices than just fried chicken and fries (there are asian dining options all over the islands ex. chinese, vietnamese, japanese, thai, indian, etc.) and if all else fails...there are mcd's, jack, and bk (even a few wendy's) scattered throughout the island.

buffets might be riskier than sit down restaurants (hard to control if someone touches pineapple, then grabs a serving utensil to get some of the next item, etc.) but aulani isn't much different from other disney dining options, you can call ahead/flag your reservations to indicate pineapple allergies.

This is a tricky one because of cross contamination within the kitchens preparing food. Pineapple is used as a garnish very frequently at many restaurants in Hawaii so I would be concerned about that. I think the way to get around it would be to have a one bedroom and prepare all your food yourself. I guess you could do that in a studio as well if you made use of the bbqs.

You would have to concerned with the BBQ grills as the guest before you could haved used pineapples.

I would think you could eat at 'Ama 'Ama and tell them about the pineapple allergy. It is a Disney resort and they do take allergies seriously. But eating in your room would be safest.

If she has a life threatening allergy, I would avoid HI or do as mentioned above, not eat out and prepare everything in the room with a few well planned meals out. That also means missing Luau's, PCC, Dole Plantation and the like for Oahu.

Whoops, it looks like I made a typo, I meant guest that used the grill before could have grilled with pineapple.
