It sounds like this is available on some days. Anyone know how much it costs and approximate times it runs? We will have a car but am wondering if it would be better to use a shuttle and not have to drive in heavy traffic and deal with hard-to-find and expensive parking at Waikiki. DSis has never been to Waikiki or I wouldn't even bother.

I know Aulani has shopping shuttles that go to Ala Moana and Waikiki, but I can't recall the prices. The Aulani website has a description of the shuttles here, but it doesn't display any prices. Once you get to Aulani, you can make arrangements for these shuttles at the Holoholo Tour Desk, which is just off the lobby.

Hello,

From memory, that shuttle runs a couple of times a week and is approx $20-$30 per person. We never used it as with the kids it was more worth our while to use Charlies Taxi's flat rates or rent a car.

Parking in Waikiki isn't as bad as you may think. Most places validate parking especially if you are eating at a Restuarant. A good place to park and have a nice looong walk would be to park your car at Ala Moana mall where the parking is free. Keep in mind you will hit traffic even in a shuttle and it will make frequent stops. Some times to stay away from the highway on the weekdays are: 5:30 am - 7:30 am East bound(Waikiki bound) and 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm West bound(Aulani bound). The weekend is very unpredicatable especially near town.

I agree that parking in Waikiki, while expensive, is not difficult to find. We never found the traffic to be unbearable either. Busier for sure than you might expect, but not unbearable.

We never paid for parking in Honolulu... we parked along or near the Ala Wai Canal... parking is free along a vast majority of it. Yeah we had to walk a bit that also meant we got to explore more and see some of the off the beaten path shops, etc.

Parking for the Hard Rock Cafe in Waikiki is $6.00 (Cash Only) for up to 4 hours with Hard Rock Cafe validation. Parking is located across the street from the cafe in the Bank of Hawaii garage. (Near Ft. Derussy Beach Park @ 280 Beachwalk, Honolulu - at the corner of Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki). That's not too awfully bad. Gives you time to eat & time to walk around a bit.

That is a great suggestion, and Ala Wai canal is only a couple of blocks walk, so not a problem at all. A couple trips ago we spent a couple of nights in a place along there, and we actually liked the location.
