Hey,
Just wondering if anyone has a preference of room view at Aulani. We are planning on going in the second half of 2013, but are still deciding on the view.
More points for Ocean view or is either Garden view nice?

Thanks

I had an island view room which was perfect. I've booked it again. The balcony looks out at the mountains and scenery of the island. Very peaceful and uses less points. We aren't in the room much so I don't feel I need more than that.

I'm facing this same question. Island, pool and ocean view are all available for our trip and am having a difficult time deciding. With a lot of the categories there is some overlap - I've seen pics of island view with some ocean in the background and higher pool rooms with an ocean view too.

You're right there on the beach and lagoons, so it shouldn't matter too much

Hi there-

I would go for the ocean view if you have the points. I figured I was hauling my butt to Hawaii and not there that often so I was determined to be on the ocean even if I wasn't planning on being in the room that much :)

In my opinion it all depends if you will be making a trip back to Hawaii. How many times will you visit Aulani and have the option for a ocean view room? For us Aulani will be a once every 10 year event so I would choose to have a ocean view.

I guess if its your first time to Hawaii, you're coming from very far away, and may not ever get back, I'd go for the ocean view. None of those things apply for us so the island view was perfect. I would have taken a standard view if I was guaranteed not to look at the parking lot.

There's a thread around here with various views. The main problem is there's 2 ocean views and its a gamble which one you get. If you're on the inside of the "V" you get a spectacular view like the one I had (in my TR in my sig). On the outside of the V you can see the ocean but there's either the Marriott Ihilani also in your view, or the empty lot on the other side of the resort. A picture of our Garden View hotel room view is also in my mini-TR, it was just okay.

Honestly, the most reliably gorgeous view in the resort is the pool view ... if I go again, that's what I'll be aiming for. From the higher floors you can see the ocean over the resort, they're all on the inside of the "V", and even the lower floors you're looking at the pool and fantastic landscaping and can watch the character breakfasts.

We were on the outside of the V and had a great ocean view, I haven't been able to post a picture cause DH is still downloading the over 1000 pictures he took :) (that included our Backstage Magic trip though :)). We were overlooking where they had the Starlite Hui which was cool and we had a full ocean view. But your right it can be a bit risky.

My daughter did a split stay at Aulani- starting in an ocean view room and ending up in a garden/pool view. She preferred the garden view room over the ocean view. In the garden/pool room she could open her sliding glass door and hear the music being piped out into the pool /resort areas. She loved it. The ocean view was distant and she felt removed. In the garden /pool view she felt she was in the middle of a paradise.

Thanks all, as always good information is given. We are never too picky, and positive wherever we choose will be amazing.

Here is the link to the Aulani Villas and View Thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2907389.

In my opinion, here are actually three groups "ocean views" at Aulani. The largest group is the even-numbered villas that face the Waikolohe Valley, home to Aulani's main pool and lazy river. These ocean view villas begin on the 6th floor and extend as high as the 16th floor in both the Waianae Building and the Ewa-Near Lobby Building and Ewa-Long Wing Building. The real advantage with this group is that you can see the ocean and you get the added bonus of all the sights and sounds coming from the Waikolohe Valley.

The second group of ocean view villas are the odd-numbered villas in the Waianae Building. These villas are on floors 8-16 and face toward the JW Marriott Resort. They also overlook the Wailana Leisure Pool. This group has the smallest number of Ocean View Villas.

The third group of ocean view villas are part of Aulani's recently opened Phase 3. Most of these ocean view villas are even-numbered villas on floors 6-16 in the Ewa-Short Wing Building, but there are also five ocean view villas located in the Ewa-Long Wing Building that have odd room numbers. These five vacation homes are on floors 10-13. In addition to facing the ocean, the villas in this group overlook the Starlet Hui stage. Guests have reported being able to listen and watch the Starlit Hui show from their balconies.

After reading this thread I changed my view from Ocean to Pool view. I could have gone either way but would like to be in the "V" and there are a fair number of ocean view rooms to the outside. I'll try to waitlist for a higher pool view room at least so maybe we'll get a peak of the ocean now and then.

We had to switch rooms and went from pool view to island. Next time I will get pool the entire time. We were 3 rooms down from the lobby and right above the Makahiki buffet, every night we opened our door to hear the music from below in the lounge it was great. The location was fantastic. Our island view was on the 16th floor, we could see all the way to Diamond head but it was a long way from the action (where we like to be)
