Aulani - kayak rental

It looks like you can rental a double kayak at Aulani beach rental for about $20/hr. I am interested in any feedback from anyone who has kayaked at or around Aulani.

Are you allowed to take kayaks outside of the Aulani cove? I recall hearing that you may not be able to in which case I wouldn't be interested.

I did not rent kayaks on any of our Aulani stays, but I am quite sure you cannot take their kayaks outside of the protected lagoon. I don't think you would want to. The surf is pretty notorious in that area. If you want a kayaking tour, I would look into something elsewhere. The only kayakers I saw where right in the lagoon. You might check with the excursion desk at Aulani for suggestions. Happy planning!

Growing up on the island of 'Oahu, I highly do not recommend taking a kayak out of the protected lagoon. The currents out on the open ocean are tough, even for experienced people. Unless you want to take that risk, I would stay in the lagoon. There are other places that are much safer to kayak if you want to go outside the lagoon, such as over in Kailua. JMHO.
